Sophia is currently in Pakistan filming her documentary “Sabr” — a deeply personal and powerful project inspired by her late father, who spent over 23 years on dialysis with unwavering strength, patience and dignity.

Her work is more than storytelling.
It’s legacy in motion.

Through her voice, her father’s journey continues to inspire — reminding us of the reality of kidney disease, the strength of families, and the quiet resilience that so many live with every single day.

Today is World Kidney Day, a moment to reflect on kidney health, organ donation and the importance of inclusive awareness.

Kidney disease disproportionately affects many ethnic minority communities, yet conversations around organ donation are often underrepresented within those same communities.

Representation matters — not only in the stories children read, but in the health conversations families feel able to have.

If our communities are not part of the conversation, we cannot advocate for the needs of our families.

That’s why our work focuses on starting these discussions early — through storytelling, school workshops and community engagement using A Different Kind of Hero.

Because when children understand, they ask questions.
And those questions open conversations at home.

March marks World Kidney Month — a time to reflect on the importance of kidney health, organ donation and community awareness.

Within many ethnic minority communities, conversations around organ donation can feel difficult or unfamiliar. But awareness is not just about statistics — it’s about stories. It’s about education. It’s about creating safe spaces to ask questions.

That’s why we created A Different Kind of Hero.

Because when children are given language, understanding and empathy, they carry those conversations home. And that is where real change begins.

Throughout this month, we’ll be sharing more about the families, schools and communities who are helping us reshape this conversation.

Together, we can move from silence to understanding.

From hesitation to informed choice.

There is something so powerful about stories being read aloud in community spaces.

Opening up conversations around organ donation within our community is not always easy… but when it’s done through storytelling, compassion and connection, something shifts.

We are incredibly grateful for our supporters who help carry this work forward — creating safe, welcoming spaces where families can listen, reflect and begin meaningful conversations together. 🤍

✨ Celebrating a Different Kind of Hero ✨

A couple of weeks ago, we had the privilege of delivering a special workshop at in London for Hero Day — and what a powerful day it was. 💛

Together, we explored the many different kinds of heroes in our lives… not just the ones in films or history books, but the quiet heroes who show up every single day — especially within our own families.

We introduced the children to A Different Kind of Hero — the story of a Muslim mum who donates her kidney to her sister. A story rooted in love, sacrifice and courage. 🫀

The children also met the wonderful , who shared the moving story of her late father — his courageous journey with kidney disease and transplant, and how he, along with many members of her family, became her real-life heroes.

The questions the children asked were thoughtful, compassionate and deeply insightful. We were so proud of their engagement and openness to such an important conversation. 🌱

These are the moments that remind us why this work matters — when young hearts begin to understand empathy, legacy and the power of giving.

As we sight the new moon and recite this beautiful du‘a, we’re reminded that Sha‘ban is a month of preparation — a quiet invitation to ready our hearts for Ramadan.

This is such a precious time to involve our children in that journey. 🌱

✨ Practically, it might look like:
– Making simple Ramadan decorations together
– Planning special foods or routines
– Organising Ramadan-themed books and activities
– Noticing the moon and its changing phases 🌙

✨ Spiritually, it’s about gently turning back to Allah:
– Asking for forgiveness
– Stepping away from distractions
– Paying a little more attention to our salah
– Beginning to reconnect with the Qur’an, one verse at a time

Sha‘ban teaches our children that all good things require intention and thoughtful preparation — just as the moon prepares us for the months ahead.

We pray this month helps you nurture love, excitement, and readiness in young hearts for what’s to come.

Allahumma ballighna Ramadan. 🤍

A huge thank you to for bringing the science to life in our in-person interactive workshops for A Different Kind of Hero.

It’s one thing to connect with the story of organ donation — but it’s something truly powerful when children also get to understand how the kidneys actually function, through hands-on STEM learning. 🧠🫀

We feel so fortunate to partner with the incredibly talented Sumera, whose sessions spark curiosity, deepen understanding, and make learning unforgettable.

The VR experience, which takes students inside a real-life kidney, is always an absolute highlight — even our ambassador couldn’t resist getting involved!

We’ve had such a wonderful time at Gatton Primary School today and can’t wait to be back again soon, in shaa Allah.

“Qad ja‘alaha Rabbi haqqa”

“My Lord has made it come true” - Surah Yusuf (12:100)

When this book was just an idea, taking shape on the living room floor in 2018, every illustration was intentional. For Rajab, Buraq’s side profile and wings on the top flap, the Dome of The Rock beneath it. A subtle detail for the observant eye - a bowed head in sujood, symbolising our first qibla.

All the Shade 7 books were created to spark awe, love, and connection to our faith. But what we never dared to imagine was that these books would one day reach the very lands they tried so lovingly to depict.

And yet here we stand holding “My First Book of Islamic Months”, filled with gratitude to our Lord, Al Karim, the Most Generous, Ash-Shakur, the Most Appreciative, in utter awe, whispering:

“Qad ja‘alaha Rabbi haqqa.”

We are so unworthy…
yet “Qad ja‘alaha Rabbi haqqa.”

We don’t know what to do with this responsibility…
yet “Qad ja‘alaha Rabbi haqqa.”

We are not deserving of Your forgiveness…
yet “Qad ja‘alaha Rabbi haqqa.”

We are not guaranteed Your Jannah…
yet still - “Qad ja‘alaha Rabbi haqqa.”

Just as You allowed these books to reach corners of the world we never imagined in this dunya, we ask You by Your Mercy, to grant us the unimaginable in the akhirah too - to allow us to say, with settled hearts and abundant gratitude, in the Highest Jannah:

“Qad ja‘alaha Rabbi haqqa.”
My Lord has made it come true. Ameen

In whatever you do, always expect the best of your Lord.

And then know that He can exceed it in the most unexpected of ways. Alhamdulillah.

Sharon has over 6 years’ experience as a Specialist Nurse for Organ Donation, and more than 17 years working in Intensive Care Units across the Midlands and South Wales. She is currently based at Llanfrechfa Grange University Hospital in Cwmbran, as part of the South Wales Organ Donation Team.

Her work sits at one of the most sensitive moments a family will ever face — supporting loved ones through end-of-life care, having compassionate conversations about organ donation, and helping turn loss into the gift of life for others.

It’s a role she describes as bittersweet, deeply human, and an absolute privilege.

This Live is for anyone wanting to understand organ donation better, ask questions in a safe space, and hear directly from someone working at the heart of this process every day.
