I just want to say a huge CONGRATS to our label founder, one of my grooviest friends and all around bad ass ... Martin 'Youth' Glover for being presented the ‘Iconic Producer’ award at MiCannes.
*May I also throw some congrats to Richard Norris, definitely part of our immediate music family... for also winning 'Music Book of the Year' for his recent book 'Strange Things are Happening' (which is AMAZING btw, you should grab it, link below) also check his music if you havent. I even personally subscribe to his Bandcamp and the rewardss are worth it, I Dj his tunes a lot!

"I arrived in Cannes to deliver a panel talk at the music conference Mi Cannes. Little did I know that i was getting an ‘Iconic Producer’ award. Completely surprised and delighted to receive it .
As I was called up our host Christian Ulf Hanson, who played a selection of records I’d produced, it was quite overwhelming to hear them all together and the reception from the crowd was wild.
It was emotional and by the end of my acceptance speech, as I was talking about Jazz Summers telling me early on ‘ Get the music right Youth and everything follows from that’ that memory started cracking me up and tears were flowing.
Dave Robinson legendary manager, Stiff records founder, Island records ceo and one time Hendrix tour manger was also being honoured with an ‘ Iconic Manager’ award and he also got emotional by the end and more tears were shed!
We had a great chat later. What’s amazing about these conferences is the older ones are passing on the baton of their experience and knowledge and style to the younger ones, who in turn pass it on the newbies and this creates a continuity of legacy and wisdom, brings everyone together, the networking introduces and facilitates new connections and opens doors. Seeing mythical icons like Dave Robinson, who had been Hendrix’s tour manager and sacked Lemmy as Hendrix’s roadie after the Isle of White, put out and broke the first Damned album.Also seeing Richard Norris get an award for his book, another well deserved honour.
Fantastic to see Renato from Suriya here ( who Who like Dave was Miles Davies tour manager, more great stories!) and Francesco from the Gulps assisting him. Lovely to see Rod and Helen Gammons from Berwick st studios in Soho, where I made many great records including Blue Pearl’s ‘Naked In The Rain’. Last time I saw them was at Midem here 30 yrs ago !
