MrWatchMaster is designed to present a uniquely authoritative resource, covering news, opinion, reviews and entertainment within the watch sector, that people will talk about and share. The ultimate aim is to develop a Marketing Platform for watch businesses who wish to promote themselves to discerning watch purchasers. The term ‘Master’ is synonymous with the world of horology. Indeed, since its
inception under Royal Charter in 1631 from King Charles I, the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers has elected a Master to lead the organisation. The first Master was David Ramsey (1631-1633) and leading figures from the clock and watch making world took charge, including the ‘Father of English Watch and Clock-making’, Thomas Tompion (1703). In more recent times, the Master’s position has been filled by the likes of George Daniels (1980), considered by many to have been the finest horologist in the world during his lifetime and indeed, the last 250 years. Throughout history, there have been ‘Master’ watchmakers who have shaped the industry as we know it today. Amongst the most significant achievements include, Abraham-Louis Perrelet inventing the self-winding mechanism in the 1770’s for pocket watches. The extraordinary, Abraham-Louis Breguet inventing the tourbillon escapement in 1801. George Daniels inventing the Coaxial escapement for Omega watches in 1974. Modern day ‘Master’ watchmakers include, François-Paul Journe, Roger W. Smith, Robert Greubel, Stephen Forsey, Peter Speake-Marin, Franck Muller (‘Master of Complications’) and
Maximilian Büsser. Many brands include ‘Master’ in their title, including Rolex (GMT Master), Jaeger LeCoultre (Master Grande Tradition), Franck Muller (Master Banker), Omega (Speedmaster Moonphase Co-Axial Master Chronometer Chronograph), Longines (Master Chronograph) etc
