🚀 I got invited to the launch party of a revolutionary new satellite

🤓You know I love science and this satellite with 2 missions is full of it!

🛰️ 1-The Meteosat Third Generation Sounder (MTG-S1) will be the first ever European sounding satellite in geostationary orbit to produce a 3D profile of the atmosphere every 30 minutes, which will tell us about the instability in the atmosphere will revolutionise weather forecasts and we will see the atmosphere like never before. We’ll be able to predict a storm before the cloud has even formed. It will be the first time we’ll have a space based view of the full life cycle of a convective storm.

Severe convective storms are some of the most dangerous weather related events in Europe. Between 2007-2017 the financial losses from convective storms in western Europe were 35 billion Euros.

🛰️ 2-the Copernicus Sentinel-4 mission, it will sample the atmosphere at Hyperspectral resolution-what does that mean? It will look at Ultra violet, visible and near infrared wave lengths, providing very high resolution imaging and will captures data every hour to monitor air quality and pollution over Europe and North Africa. It will monitor Nitrogen dioxide, Sulphur dioxide and Ozone, giving us a better understanding of the global distribution of these gasses. If we can see where the highest levels of pollution are, we can target areas to reduce emissions, which will help to save lives. There are 7 million deaths due to air pollution globally each year.

This satellite will be vital to save lives, reduce disruption & strengthen resilience.

🌊 World ocean day

🌎 Did you know 70% of the Earth surface is water?

Why are our Oceans so important?
I was invited to the International weather and climate summit with 80 weather presenters from around the World to find out more-The focus this year was the Ocean in Nice at the UN Ocean conference.

🌊 Here’s why the oceans are so important
-It absorbs 25% of co2 (which warms or planet, this also makes water more acidic kills marine life)
-It absorbs 90% of excess heat (warmer waters means sea level rise, more heat=energy means more power for storms)
-We’re seeing more marine heatwaves which kills marine life, and 20X more by 2030
-Oceans and atmosphere are linked and if we can measure & model the ocean more we can have better weather forecasts
-Sea ice is declining

There is hope
-Many companies are working very hard to do more measuring, more foresting, more visualisations,
They are used by companies, weather forecasters & shown to delegates & governments, the more we understand the oceans the more we can do to protect it.


There is no green without blue.

🌍 This year the United Nation’s Environment day focuses on solutions to beat plastic pollution

♻️ Did you know less than 10% of all plastic ever made has been recycled. (meaning 90% hasn’t been recycled-crazy🤯)

🚛 Every day, 2,000 bin lorries worth of plastic are dumped into the world’s oceans, rivers, and lakes

🌊 Every year, 19 to 23 million tonnes of plastic waste leaks into lakes, rivers and seas.

Mountain 🏔️ 🌊 Plastic has been found From the top of Mount Everest, to the deepest parts of the ocean.

🌍 We need to fix the problem and change our ways...if we don’t, we could triple our plastic consumption by 2060
