🥊Today we honour Muhammad Ali — legendary boxer, humanitarian, and civil rights activist.

Known to many as “The Greatest”, Ali’s impact went far beyond the boxing ring. He used his global platform to speak out against racism, war, and injustice, famously refusing to be drafted into the Vietnam War on grounds of conscience and faith.

Ali’s courage in standing by his beliefs — even when it cost him his boxing titles and career — made him a powerful symbol of resistance and integrity. Beyond his activism, he dedicated much of his later life to humanitarian work, promoting peace, education, and equality around the world.

Muhammad Ali’s legacy reminds us that greatness isn’t just measured in victories, but in the courage to stand up for what is right so that everyone is included.

🥳 Celebrating the past whilst looking to the future! 🏠

Last week, we held our 40th Anniversary Gala Dinner – an evening dedicated to raising funds for our mission to pioneer a new solution to the housing crisis.

Together, we took an important step toward creating 20 new homes in Sheffield and Scunthorpe, for families hardest hit by poverty and exclusion.

We were privileged to host our dinner at the beautiful Grocers' Hall, made possible through the generosity of our partners.

A heartfelt thank you to all our friends and supporters who helped make the evening a success. In particular: Reed Specialist Recruitment, Lyreco UK & Ireland, LMP Group and Sodexo UK & Ireland.

Thank you also to our amazing Oasis Community Learning students who inspired us with their powerful welcome speeches and beautiful piano playing.

The night was also a chance to recognise and honour those who have shaped Oasis over the past 40 years, giving their time and resources to build stronger communities across the country. Congratulations to our award winners:

• BGC Charity Day — The Partnership Catalyst Award

• Anne Wadsworth OBE — The Changemaker Award

• Philip Warland — The NO ONE LEFT OUT Legacy Award

Our celebration came the same week the Museum of Homelessness reported a record number of deaths among people experiencing homelessness, alongside a 20% rise in rough sleeping in England. These sobering statistics remind us that the work is not done yet.

Together, we can build communities where there is no one left out.

It's Black History Month 2025!

Over the next couple of weeks, we will be spotlighting Black figures from history who worked for a world where there is no one left out — leaders who fought for the inclusion of everyone, regardless of race, gender, nationality, or socio-economic status.

Kicking us off is Angela Y. Davis — political activist, philosopher, and academic — who has been a recognised voice against sexism, racism, and homophobia.

Davis has also written extensively on prison reform, advocating for a community-led approach to rehabilitation that tackles the root causes of crime.

A record number of people died whilst homeless last year.

The Museum of Homelessness found that 1,611 people died in 2024 alone.

In November, three women passed away within 10 days of each other in Sheffield. One of them was buried without anyone attending her funeral. She was only in her 40s.

More people in the UK are living in temporary accommodation than ever before, and the number of people rough sleeping in England rose by 20% last year.

We want to pioneer a new model of housing so that no person has to face homelessness. But we need your help.

“It made me want to go to school because I had a day when I came here and saw the young ones. Now I am in school every day.”

Check out this excellent piece from Sunday The Sunday Times highlighting Oasis Academy Oldham and Oasis Academy Limeside's involvement in Power2’s Teens & Toddlers programme.

This pioneering mentoring initiative pairs secondary students with preschool children to build confidence, improve communication, and re-engage young people with education.

With rising concerns around persistent absence and youth mental health, programmes like this show the power of connection, empathy, and purpose. All crucial for building a world where no young person is left behind.

We count it an absolute privilege to run four schools and community hubs in Handsworth and to be part of such a wonderfully diverse and brilliant community.

Together we are committed to all our children growing up knowing that they matter, that they can and will achieve, and that they have a huge contribution to make to society so that there is no one left out.

We warmly welcome politicians of all parties to visit us any time 😊 Oasis Community Learning

On Thursday, we will be holding a minute’s silence across Oasis as part of a National Day of Unity and Solidarity alongside other organisations such as the The Church of England, The Scouts, HOPE not hate, British Muslim Network and The WI (National Federation of Women's Institutes).

This will be in remembrance of the victims of the recent Manchester synagogue attack and their families, and in support of all those who live in fear of further attacks or reprisals—particularly following this weekend’s arson attack on a mosque in East Sussex.

We must work together to end hate, and bring hope to every community.

“An Oasis Village is all about working with local people and empowering them to get the job done. Nothing else will work however many noughts there are at the end of the budget.” – Steve Chalke

School suspensions and exclusions are at their highest level since 2006: 954,952 suspensions and 10,885 exclusions. That’s why we’re launching Oasis Villages—to create opportunities for young people most at risk.

In April, we plan to launch Oasis Village Wirral to bring local charities together, provide physical space for them to work and thrive, support local schools by reducing barriers to education, and create career pathways for young people vulnerable to exclusion.
