On July 22nd, Ozzy Osbourne, the Prince of Darkness, the godfather of heavy metal, passed away. This week, mourners have gathered in Birmingham to grieve the loss of one of the most influential musicians of all time.
Yesterday, people gathered in Birmingham to honour Osbourne. The amount of heavy metal lovers who have flooded the streets is unbelievable. Never before has a musician been given a funeral with such an audience and with so much love, which perfectly reflects just how much the music he made influenced people.
Often dubbed the foundation of heavy metal, Black Sabbath is responsible for all of the exciting sub-genres of metal that are now so popular worldwide. Metalheads everywhere recognise their influence, which has led to the city of Birmingham, the band’s hometown, becoming a tourism hotspot for lovers of the genre. No doubt that many of them will be there now, and after paying respects to Osbourne, they may be twiddling their thumbs, wondering what to do next.
