Self-taping is HARD WORK, so don't drain your energy and creativity by doing too many takes! Make sure you don't start taping until you are fully ready. Have you done your prep work? Memorised your lines? Understand what is happening in the scene? What you're trying to achieve? Once you've done all that then you are READY to tape. 🎥
Set-up your space and enjoy the process, but limit yourself to 3 or 4 takes MAX. You'll find that after 4 or so takes you may to get into a repetitive pattern of movement and/or speech. It often feels too rehearsed. You're likely tired, maybe even frustrated.
You want your takes to feel fresh and natural. Your first few takes will be much more natural than say your 10th or 11th take. That's why the first few takes are likely the ones you'll end up sending in. So, have your time and energy and make sure you're fully ready before you tape.
And of course, if you absolutely hate your first few takes, then take a break and come back to it with fresh eyes. You got this. 💪
