Meet Maria 👋

Originally from Spain, Maria moved to Australia in her late teens without knowing much English. After years working in hospitality, she began exploring short IT courses and quickly discovered a natural aptitude for technology.

”One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned during the training is that a career in technology is about so much more than just programming. Before starting the program, I had a fairly narrow understanding of the tech industry - I thought that becoming a programmer was the only real path forward. But throughout the training, I’ve come to appreciate the incredible breadth of roles, paths, and specialisations available. From UX and DevOps to cloud computing and project management, the possibilities are far more diverse than I initially imagined.”

Fast forward to today, and Maria is thriving as a Site Reliability Engineer at Macquarie Group. From tackling complex systems to leading on new service enablement, she’s embraced steep learning curves and turned them into opportunities for growth. What once felt daunting now motivates her: the pace of change, the constant challenges, and the endless chance to learn.

Her advice to future career changers?

”Consistency in your learning is good but don’t forget to live your life - and be open to opportunities that come your way, even if they don't quite match your original expectations - they can open doors you didn’t even know existed”

Meet Atlas 👋

From product quality and compliance to animation and graphic design, Atlas' career path has been anything but ordinary.

It was his leap into _nology’s training program that unlocked a new chapter.

Now working in DevOps in the financial sector, Atlas thrives on supporting developers, solving problems, and sharing knowledge.

“I love being a support person. These are developers who have years, and in some cases decades of experience, so it really drives home how nobody knows everything and questions, even the simple/basic ones are always going to be asked, no matter where you are in your career.”

Creativity and sheer determination drive Atlas to learn both front and back-end technologies, often sparked by an idea he has to figure out.

His advice for those starting out in tech?

“Figure out how to insert a bit of yourself into the projects you build. Put in a goofy easter egg or incorporate something you're passionate about. You'll create much more interesting and better quality projects when you're building for you, not just for a portfolio.”
