Congratulations to Helen Jackson on winning our September Photo of the Month competition with her photo ‘Shadows.’

Here’s what she had to say about it:

'This was taken as the sunlight flooded into the Ismail Samani Mausoleum in Bukhara, Uzbekistan. The Mausoleum is famous for its walls and arches made of baked bricks. These are arranged in intricate patterns and act as decoration and ventilation.

To avoid daytime temperatures of over 40 degrees, we visited at 6.15pm when beams of light were filtering through the gaps creating a chequerboard pattern on the floor inside.'

Congratulations to Gordon Essam who won our Book of the Month competition for August with his nostalgic photo book Turkey 1970 - 2009.

'I like that it’s easy to create layers by placing one smaller image over a larger one. Using this effect on two-page spreads is a wonderful way to enhance the visual layout, particularly when using lay-flat photo books with photographic paper,' he says.
