Sometimes, the resistance is not a sign that you are on the wrong path. It may simply be part of the path you have been called to walk.

There are seasons when what you are building, becoming or stepping into comes with more stretching than you expected. And perhaps the lesson is not to keep asking, “Why is this so hard?” but to learn how to keep going with the assurance that God is with you in it.

Faith does not always make the road easier. Sometimes, it gives you the strength to walk it.

Many African parents in the diaspora are carrying a lot. We know the extra shifts are often about giving your children a better life.

But a better life isn’t built on income alone.

Sometimes, the football club, debate class, volunteering opportunity, mentorship programme, or community event you keep postponing is exactly where your child learns confidence, communication, leadership, and meets people who shape their future.

Not every investment has to be expensive. Even the little opportunities within your reach matter.

Keep working hard, but don’t let survival quietly replace presence. One of the greatest gifts you can give your child is not just what you earn, but who they become.

One of the quickest ways to create resentment in a marriage is expecting modern partnership in one area and traditional sacrifice in another.

If a couple agrees to share financial responsibilities, then the responsibilities of running the home should also be shared. Cooking, cleaning, laundry, parenting, and maintaining a home are not “women’s work.” They are life skills and shared responsibilities.

One of the reasons many African marriages struggle abroad is that old expectations often collide with a different reality. There is no extended family to lean on, life is more demanding, and both partners are often working. Refusing to adapt doesn’t preserve culture, it places unnecessary strain on the relationship.

A healthy marriage isn’t about keeping score. It’s about building a home where both people feel supported, respected, and seen.

The moment “This is how we do it here” becomes a conversation stopper instead of a starting point, curiosity dies. Innovation slows. People stop asking, What if there’s a better way?

Being created in the image of God means we carry the capacity to imagine, create, solve problems, and build. That capacity shouldn’t be buried under unquestioned traditions or fear of doing things differently.

The goal isn’t to reject every existing way. It’s to refuse to let familiarity become the ceiling of possibility.
