There’s something powerful about how many young people I saw , and personally know who were in the negotiations this year !! A quiets movement of activism within the system is on the rise and I’m here for it !!!

On my first day at I wore the traditional attire of my Home 🇧🇼. Although I was not born in Botswana, it is my home . Representing the Youth Climate Council Alliance and YCC Botswana , I’m proud to attend this years with the full awareness that this years COP does not have a lot of attendance from Africa and African Youth.

I will be moderating ,attending and speaking in panels on Youth Integration in the NDCs and sharing the plight of young Africans for climate action as-well as some success stories and lessons . Happy to connect with fellow Delegates from Botswana , and powerful force on reclaiming Africa’s narrative .

One of the most ranked responses at the YCC Botswana first Youth Forum when asked about NDCs was “Confusion” and it was quite expected .

When putting together this forum , I was reminded of the simple truths.

1. Not all Young Africans have the privilege and access to climate change information including intimate understanding of COP processes and Climate Diplomacy , but it doesn’t have to end with us who have had these experiences , we can open the space up more to other youth , through inclusive and targeted dialogue.

2. Youth Inclusion is still somewhat a dream that hasn’t actualized in some of these climate documentation processes , but as youth we have the responsibility to make space for the “Boring Things “ move beyond what’s convenient, and beyond the surface if we want to be included .

We can’t be included in what we don’t know , have no interest in or are making dedicated efforts to learn about .

I’m proud that so many young people showed up , despite not really knowing what NDCs are . I believe that bridging the divide between policy’s , their makers and youth at large is the work that the Youth Climate Council aims to achieve , and I’m proud to contribute to it in my Cordinator hat !
