Set to be the next upcoming Assassin's Creed game from Ubisoft, a recent insider claims that the witchy RPG will be set in the German town of Würzburg amid the European witch trials of the 1600s. Past speculations had us convinced we'd be heading to Salem, Massachusetts, but the notion of a city-set Creed RPG has me chomping at the bit for it to be true.
In development from Ubisoft Montreal, Ubisoft finally gave us a little update on the curious project in a blog post detailing plans for Assassin's Creed in March 2026. As well as confirming that, Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced is set to land this July, the studio also touched on Hexe. Promising to be a "darker" instalment set during a "pivotal moment in history", new creative director, Jean Guesdon confirmed we can expect the studio to go quiet for some time as the team works on the new game.
Believed to be channeling witchy vibes, the upcoming RPG is also expected to come to the Animus hub (more on that below), which first launched alongside Assassin's Creed Shadows. The news came in the publisher's FY 2025/2026 earnings call, which suggested that it expects to deliver more from its "premium games" (including Assassin's Creed) in the next three years, following a two-year period of focusing resources on its in-house restructuring amid a "softer release schedule".
It'll likely be some time yet before we see Assassin's Creed Hexe arrive too. In the latest update from Ubisoft, Guesdon said: "We are taking the time to deliver on its ambitious vision, which means we’ll be quiet for a while longer, but we love seeing all the enthusiasm happening on our channels and can’t wait to unveil more when the time is right."
