1. You'll never have a lot of them. If you think you have 10 close friends, ask yourself who actually knows when you're falling apart.
2. It's never consistently 50/50. Sometimes you're the one texting first for five months straight. Sometimes it's them. If you keep score, you'll burn yourself out.
3. A real friend won't always hype you up. Sometimes they're the one who says "you're wrong, don't do that" and you'll be annoyed at them for a week.
4. You're going to let each other down. The difference is, a real friend tells you to your face. A fake friend talks about you behind your back.
5. You will get jealous of your closest friends. They get the job first, get married first, get their life together first. It sucks, but it's human. What's not okay is letting that jealousy turn into resentment.
6. Not everyone can come with you to the next chapter of your life. Some were only meant for college, some for your first job. No one's the villain, you just grew in different directions.
7. Adult friendship is 90% boring. Going months without talking doesn't mean you're beefing, it just means you're both busy trying to survive.
8. You don't have to pretend to be strong around them. They can tell exactly when you're lying when you say "I'm fine."
If you have even one person like that, hold on tight to them.
