Malawi Stock Exchange collapses: K1 trillion vanishing each month..MSE could wind up operations next year

Malawi Stock Exchange is facing a terrifying financial meltdown after nearly K5 trillion reportedly disappeared from the market in just five months, translating to an average loss of almost K1 trillion every month. Analysts now warn that if the bleeding continues unchecked, much of the market value currently sitting on Victoria Avenue in Blantyre could disappear as early as next year, potentially leaving the stock exchange in Malawi functionally dead.

According to market figures, MSE’s total value plunged from K33 trillion in December 2025 to around K28.3 trillion by May 2026 as investor confidence collapsed under pressure from forex shortages, economic instability and growing fears over Malawi’s financial future.

The dramatic collapse has triggered fears that Malawi’s stock market could eventually survive only in name if confidence continues evaporating at the current pace.

Some analysts told local newspapers that the plunge was becoming inevitable because Victoria Avenue is now suffering from an “oversupply of shares”, resulting in most stocks being bought at bargain prices and dragging down the market’s overall value.

Devotion: TURN TO THE RIGHT WALL
Isaiah 38:1-2 "In those days was Hezekiah sick and near death. Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, came to him, and said to him, “Thus says the LORD, ‘Set your house in order, for you will die, and not live.’” Then Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the LORD..."

The opening scripture tells us about King Hezekiah who was sick and decided to turn to the wall to speak to God of Heaven. He chose to pray to God of Heaven rather than praying to another god. Hezekiah turned to right wall and talked to the right God. He didn't turn to the wall of social media to update his status and tell the god of social media about his sickness.

There are different gods. 1 Corinthians 8:5 "For though there are things that are called “gods,” whether in the heavens or on earth..”

Mostly those who don't pray to true God love to complain to people or to other gods like god of social media who possibly receives more prayer requests in a day than the true God.

Number 11:2 "The people cried to Moses; and Moses prayed to the LORD, and the fire abated."

In Numbers 11, when the people met a challenge they complained to Moses rather than praying to God. If you can't pray to God you may find yourself praying to people or gods.

When you are in any challenges, turn to the right wall and speak to the LORD. Separate yourself from the world and learn to talk to the Father in private. Dont turn to the wall of your social network to update your status. That won't solve anything. The god of social media has no answers. Asking for TRAVELLING MERCIES to the god of social media won't solve it.

Cast your worries to God who cares about you. Don't cast them to those who don't even care about you.

CONFESSION
I am above the systems of the world. I cast all my worries unto THE LORD for He cares for me. I don't cast them unto other gods who do not care for me. In Jesus Name. Amen.

The country's media fraternity is mourning the death of Timveni Radio Blantyre reporter Gerald Viyuyi, who died on Thursday after a short illness.

Viyuyi passed away while receiving treatment at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) in Blantyre, where he had been admitted since Saturday.

His death has triggered an outpouring of grief from fellow journalists and media practitioners, many remembering him as a warm, friendly and dependable colleague whose contribution to journalism and willingness to support others will be greatly missed.

Among those paying tribute is Mzati Radio and TV journalist Evance Matola, who said Viyuyi played a significant role in helping him settle into reporting duties in Blantyre after his transfer from Mulanje in 2021.

"Gerald will remain a true brother of mine, a fellow foot soldier whom we worked together with in Blantyre. I came to know him in 2021 when I got transferred from Mulanje to Blantyre. As a newly posted reporter, he took me as his brother and helped me master all angles of Blantyre," said Matola.

Meanwhile, funeral vigils are being held at Luwanda in Machinjiri, Blantyre. His body is expected to be transported to his home district of Karonga on Friday evening, where he will be laid to rest.

Police in South Africa are investigating violent protests involving hundreds of high school students in Kraaifontein, near Cape Town, who marched on Wednesday demanding the removal of foreign nationals from their schools and the country.

Authorities reported that approximately 700 learners from two schools participated in the unrest, which quickly escalated. The protests resulted in the assault of a foreign national, the stoning of vehicles, and the looting of roadside stalls.

Security officers were deployed to the area to quell the violence and restore order. Officers successfully escorted students back to their schools to resume classes.

According to the Western Cape Education Department, the disruption appeared to have originated at one school before spreading to the neighboring institution.
