The technical issues associated with wax deposition in Pipelines include:

+ Permeability reduction and formation damage when it occurs around the wellbore and its vicinity.

+ Reduction in the interior diameter and eventual plugging of production strings and flow channels (see photo below)

+ Changes in the reservoir fluid composition and fluid rheology due to phase separation as wax solid precipitates.

+ Additional strain on pumping equipment owing to increased pressure drop along flow channel consequent to rheological changes as wax begins to crystallise.

Below is an image taken from a in Texas where Protech's HCR - Hydrocarbon Recovery technology has successfully cleaned the tank, using the existing tank mixers to agitate the contents until we are left with true phase separation in the tank, consisting of a new larger layer of on-specification crude, then a layer of clean water which is ready to be pumped and a minimal layer of residual solids, leaving the customer with more profit than before (even after we have been paid).

"Old habits die hard" ...

Most people in the industry think that the best way to clean the out of is to use a No Man Entry 'closed loop system' which requires a separate processing plant of centrifuges, decanters, heat exchanges, pumps, control panels, power generators etc to be installed next to each tank. One by one this can take around 2-3 months per tank.

While i'll admit, this is better than sending people physically inside the tank ...

Would it not be better to do the clean the tank AND turn all of the sludge back into profit as on-specification crude, while in-situ in the tank, without the need of any expensive additional equipment and lost time?
