12 years of visiting Paris, first year with our toddler (!!) who wanted to say coucou to everyone, mercilessly munch on croissants/baguettes, chase cats, and gaze at immersive art. You think I’d get bored of coming here over and over, but you can teach an old city new tricks, especially when those tricks involve getting your one-year-old to sleep in the pram so you can have a glass of w**e 🍷

Isandro is 1️⃣!!!!

I never thought I could so more obsessed with someone but wow, Isandro is da 💣 I watch videos of him every night, find excuses to bring him up in conversation, feed him mangoes to oblivion, and pick him up early from nursery twice a week because I miss him. He dances to 1970s Bollywood songs, cracks up whenever I say “mama” (clearly has no clue what it means), and LOVES reading. His software updates every other day and he takes his first time on earth so optimistically, I am up to my ears in awe. Nothing I do will ever be enough for what he deserves and this reality rattles my soul. But I am going with to keep trying by feverishly building our family culture it to be as good as we can possibly get. Every day with him is a reminder to stay curious, say what we want (or babble it if you’re a baby), and love unconditionally.

Happy birthday to the human who changed us forever. I love you I love you I love you. I love us I love us I love us.

Sometimes I test a dish and a whole other dish comes out of it like a mutant dessert that nobody was expecting 👾 Pine nut honey ice cream with roasted tomatoes and basil! Been tinkering with this IC for supper club next week (peep for deetz) and was been blown away at how sweet and salty it was. It could go in any direction depending on what you pair with it, and since I only have tomatoes at home right now because I’m trying to get Isandro to eat them (no luck yet), I did a quick roast with olive oil, chiffoned a few basil leaves, scooped it all together and wow. It’s savory, it’s sweet, it’s fragrant, it’s punchy, it’s summer.

Facilitating Isandro’s journey with solids has been a beautiful, fun, messy, delightful, and healing experience. Imagine seeing an alien-ass raspberry for the first time in your LIFE and then EATING it?! That’s so brave!! As a toddler he’ll probably eat dino nuggets for 6 months straight but right now he is munching away on mackerel, tahini, eggs, mangoes, eggplant, kiwi, ragi porridge, uttapams, parsnips, and all the spices including chilli powder! I’m so proud of him. Feeding him has pushed me to add variety to our own meals and made our whole family better eaters, an unexpected side effect I am awed by. In the brain fog of postpartum and unemployment, this part of parenthood has given me so much joy. If Isandro can eat a raspberry, I can also do things I have never done before. I can also be brave.
