Our Grub Street Story
Grub Street is an award-winning small, niche independent publisher, publishing only books on cookery and military aviation history. Voted International Publisher of the Year at the World Cookbook Awards in 2000, a number of our cookbooks have won prizes over the years.
Elisabeth Luard, author of European Peasant Cookery, was winner of the Glenfiddich Award for Best Cookery Writer and the highly coveted Glenfiddich Trophy in 2007. Cakes Regional & Traditional by Julie Duff was one of only three books short listed for the prestigious Glenfiddich Food Book of the Year 2004 and when we reissued the Constance Spry Cookery Book which had been out of print for more than ten years it was selected by Waitrose Food Illustrated as one of the greatest cookbooks of all time. The Guardian says of it ‘If you can’t find a recipe for something anywhere else, it will be in Constance Spry.’
It is highly satisfying to be acknowledged for our and our authors’ achievements since Grub Street’s aim is to publish the very best in contemporary and classic food writing. We are also very proud to have produced several high-quality and hugely popular vegan cookery books: in fact, Marie Laforêt’s ‘Vegan Bible’ is the Number 1 best-selling vegan cookbook in France ever! We are very excited to expand our vegan collection and are publishing three new vegan titles in 2018!
Cookery isn’t our only passion however! We also publish an extensive selection of Aviation and Military History titles, including our extremely successful ‘Boys’ series, featuring books written by Tony Blackman OBE; Richard Pike; Dr Steve Bond; ex-MOD Director of Intelligence, Graham Pitchfork; Ian Hall; and Bob Marston, to name just a few! We have had an immense about of feedback from military magazines, and to show-off just a few of our favourites:
