Incase you missed this before the holidays...

It’s been an incredible year of growth at Ikon Images. We are proud to represent a boutique roster of elite talent, and we’ve recently welcomed five standout illustrators.

Here is the latest talent to join the Ikon family:

Andy Huang () – Hailing from New York, Andy’s work radiates joy through a high-energy, mid-century modern lens.

Gabriella Bianca () – Based in Brussels, Gabriella captures hearts with her whimsical, retro-infused aesthetic and a signature light-hearted charm.

Andy Carter () – From Yorkshire, Andy blends vibrant palettes with sharp wit to tackle everything from cutting-edge tech to everyday lifestyle themes.

🎨 A–Z of Artists’ Techniques

F is for Flat Colour

Flat colour is the bold sibling of shading and gradients. Instead of blending tones or building depth, artists use solid, unmodulated blocks of colour to create striking, graphic compositions.

✨ Why it works

Clarity: Shapes and ideas stand out instantly.

Impact: Strong palettes grab attention in editorial, advertising, and digital design.

Versatility: Works beautifully in vector art, screen printing, and digital illustration.

📚 A little history

Flat colour has roots in poster design and printmaking, where limited palettes and bold inks were both practical and powerful.

Think of mid‑century travel posters or Japanese woodblock prints — the drama comes from colour itself, not shading.

💡 Modern use

Today, flat colour is everywhere:

Branding & logos (clean, memorable marks).

Infographics (easy to read at a glance).

Editorial illustration (conceptual clarity with visual punch).

✨ Ikon In Action

We love seeing our illustrators’ work come alive on the page. While we can’t share every project, sometimes a design truly catches the eye.

This recent feature with our friends at the American Healthcare Association was one of those moments. The wonderful art direction by Beth Schlenoff — a long‑standing partner we’ve collaborated with for many years — beautifully balances copy and image.

The illustration by Paul Tong, one of Ikon’s newer talents, captures calm and mindfulness through a soft pastel palette. His portfolio has grown wonderfully since joining us, and it’s been inspiring to see how much our clients value his work.

Our A–Z series explores artistic techniques and styles—this time, we take a closer look at...

D for Dots.

Tiny but mighty, dots are the unsung heroes of illustration. Whether you're channeling the bold drama of comic book halftones, sculpting light and shadow with stippling, or guiding the eye through rhythmic patterns, dots do more than decorate—they direct, define, and dazzle.

From pointillism to pop art, from texture to tension, dots bring depth and dynamism to every design. Sometimes subtle, sometimes striking—always intentional.

Ready to connect the dots in your next masterpiece?

Say hello to Emma Harding — our newest stock illustrator at Ikon! Her work is a joyful blend of collage, drawing, painting and digital — layered, expressive, and full of character.

Emma studied illustration at Cambridge School of Art and Central Saint Martins, and was already freelancing by the time she finished her MA.

A–Z of Artistic Styles: C is for Collage 🖼️✂️

Cut, layer, rearrange, repeat. Collage is the art of assembling fragments—paper, paint, pixels, photos—into something entirely new. It’s where chaos meets composition, and storytelling gets tactile.

From editorial illustration to fine art, collage invites us to rethink what images can say when they’re pieced together with intention. At Ikon, we love how collage artists turn everyday materials into visual poetry.

Next time you see a torn edge or overlapping texture, look closer—it might be collage speaking.

🎨 New on the Blog: Artist Q&A with Mark Airs

From finance to wellbeing, Mark Airs has a knack for turning complex briefs into clever, colourful brilliance. His deceptively simple style has been a quiet favourite with editors and art directors since Ikon's early days — and now, he's sharing his process, inspirations, and what makes an illustration land.

✨ Bright colours. Sharp wit. Unmistakable charm.

In this Q&A, Mark’s personality shines through just as much as his artwork. He’s thoughtful, funny, and — we’ll say it — very likeable. And his colour-coded bookshelves? A quiet triumph of visual order. The Ikon team may or may not be rearranging ours as we speak.

🖤 A–Z of Artistic Techniques: B is for Black and White

Timeless. Striking. Unapologetically bold. Black and white illustration plays with contrast and tone to deliver clarity, emotion, and impact — no distractions, just pure visual storytelling.

At Ikon, we license high-quality black and white work from top artists’ portfolios — ready to elevate your content, campaign, or editorial.
