A strong 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck near Mazar-e-Sharif early today. According to preliminary health ministry data, at least 20 people have been killed and more than 600 injured, some critically. Authorities say the historic Blue Mosque has been damaged and multiple homes collapsed or cracked under the tremors. Rescue teams, hospitals and disaster-management units are on high alert as aftershocks continue and the full extent of destruction remains unknown. Local residents say the quake lasted about 15 seconds, sending thousands out into the streets amid fear and confusion.
