The UN children's humanitarian programme, Unicef, removed 20 million plastic bags from circulation in 2017 by replacing them with a 100% biodegradable alternative, as part of its its ongoing efforts toward ‘green’ procurement.
Revealed in its Supply Annual Report, Unicef achieved that number by replacing plastic bags with corn-based alternatives for the health and education kits it distributes to children in some of poorest countries in Africa.
Unicef, one of the world's most famous child charities, has reduced the number of plastic bags that it circulates by 20 million.
