Young Stonechat at Aberlady Bay Nature Reserve.

Had the pleasure of watching this wee Red Footed Falcon in Aberlady nature reserve on the 6th August. (Just got round to posting these now). It's a vagrant to Britain & Ireland, reported annually but in varying numbers, last seen here in 2010.

With a breeding range that extends from Estonia, Slovakia and Hungary east to north-west China, this is a migratory species that winters in the south of Africa.

Not only do we grow lavender in the garden for the obvious colour and smell, but also for seeing these Bees enjoying it every year.

Great Skuas at Handa Island, Sutherland. These birds are know as the pirate of the seas. They will steal a free meal from birds as large as Gannets and also preys on smaller birds such as Puffins. They show little fear of humans – anybody getting close to the nest will be repeatedly dive-bombed by the angry adult. They migrate to the northernmost isles of the UK from their wintering grounds off the coasts of Spain and Africa.

Just got around to editing these pictures of a male Manderin Duck taken a month back at Fyvie Castle, Garden & Estate (National Trust for Scotland).

Manderin Ducks were introduced to the UK from China and have become established following escapes from captivity.

A wee video of our friend the snipe whilst on holiday up the west coast of Scotland. It’s a noisy wee bird. Please note that’s not its nest but some grass cuttings it’s using as a podium.
