Self-Care Sunday
I’m on a mission to upgrade my self-care this year. I’ve always been a fan of a spa, the occasional facial, mani-pedi, and massage but you know, I think I can do better!
I’ve started looking at my menstrual cycle and seeing where I can improve my nutrition especially round about now (day 26 of 28 for your info!) when mostly I want to crawl into a cave with an endless supply of red meat and carbs! I’m also looking at easy ways to honour my cycle in doable ways. I haven’t got the time or energy for red tents and cacao ceremonies, though I’d definitely like to try those out! I’m following a programme. I’ve just self-administered a 10 minute reflexology session to ease my irritability - you may approach me now! And there’s meditation and Pilates, all achievable in 10 minute chunks of time. I’m using an app called ‘Moody’. It comes recommended by me for bitesize self-care. I also highly recommend my sparkle sister, Sally Beaton. Follow her on Instagram and definitely get her book ‘Get Your Sparkle Back’ and also Nicki Williams’ book ‘It’s Not You, it’s Your Hormones’ - informative and engaging. I’m totally getting why I have the outlook I do at certain points of the month; I guess things I’d understood naturally anyway but now I try and make the most of those times - being more sociable and active when I’m ovulating and being okay with being more reflective and insular the week before my period. It’s better than ignoring it which I think was the message when we were growing up. Perhaps I shouldn’t have waited until my forties to go with the flow, as it were.
And I’m trying to carve out more time for myself and the things that bring me joy as well as building my dreams, step by step. I’m going easier on myself; forgiving myself, being kinder to myself and loving myself. I’m also celebrating the things that I’ve achieved. I’m nine years alcohol-free this year; I’ve built a buoyant business that I can run around looking after my scrumptious son and I’m realising some of the dreams I’ve had for years. That’s what self-care is too, right?
Would love to hear some tips from some of you self-care Queens!
