✨️When children experience bereavement (especially the loss of a parent / main caregiver), their brains and bodies process grief very differently than adults. A child’s brain is actively growing and the prefrontal cortex most importantly is not yet fully developed. The child looks to the caregiver for emotional regulation. A traumatic loss interacts directly with their biological and neurological development.
✨️This loss can cause a number of side effects not only immediately after the loss but for years after often into adulthood. Often the other parent is also grieving and maybe unable to help them fully process the loss.
✨️The Governments' statutory mandate requiring Schools in England to offer children Specialist Grief Support from September 2026 is a huge move forward in children's wellbeing.
✨️I am a STILL Method Grief Support Practioner who can deliver Specialist Support to children & families in line with the Dfe RHSE's Guidelines. If you would like to discuss this matter, have any questions whether a parent or Head of School please email phone or dm.
