Helmshore’s popular Scarecrow trail returns in October, raising money for Rossendale Phab Club and Milly’s Smiles.

People are being urged to register their scarecrows for the annual event, which raises thousands for charity and brings hundreds to the streets of Helmshore.

The trail will take place on October 31 and November 1, with residents in the village placing scarecrows in their gardens, and people and organisations from further afield exhibiting their creative talents on Broadway.

For the first time, registrations are being accepted online. Details can be found here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfnoBdxkVxWm12m6wJ5PMmDY44NFDpww6geFXZW7TlFtC8UMg/viewform?usp=send_form&pli=1&authuser=0

🚌 Rawtenstall residents could soon have a direct bus link restored to Bolton for the first time in years - and a direct bus to Ramsbottom too.

Passengers living in the Lancashire town currently have to change buses in Bury just to complete the trip.

Under new plans put forward by Lancashire councils, the historic 236 route could be brought back into service.

The bus would run all the way from Rawtenstall down through Ramsbottom and into Bolton.

If local authorities sign off on the proposal, services could start running by the end of November.

The timetable would see buses operating every two hours from Monday to Saturday.

Rossendale MP Andy MacNae said: "The 236 would restore the Rawtenstall to Bolton link via Balladen, Edenfield, Ramsbottom, Hawkshaw and Edgworth. It would take in the current Rawtenstall town service, so the hourly journeys between Rawtenstall and Balladen stay.

"These proposals are subject to a consultation, and the response from residents will be our chance to show the necessity of these new routes and the strength of feeling across Rossendale and Darwen."

Yet others fear running buses only once every two hours will not make the route convenient enough to survive in the long term.

A public consultation on the proposed route is currently live on the Lancashire Combined County Authority website and will run until Tuesday, 15 September.

Work is set to begin this month on an exciting project that will breathe new life into a historic Bacup landmark, transforming its overgrown grounds into a welcoming community garden for local residents. 👩‍🌾

Community interest company Rossendale Digital CIC has secured a funding package worth more than £30,000 to launch the next stage in the redevelopment of Christ Church on Beech Street.

The project is being supported by a grant from the Lancashire Environmental Fund together with match funding provided by Rossendale Digital CIC. 💷

The initiative will significantly improve access to the historic site, building on its recent transformation after opening as Rossendale’s first dedicated digital hub in 2025 to create a thriving green haven right in the heart of the community.
