Police recorded more than 12,000 arrests under communications laws in 2023 — equivalent to around 33 a day. Meanwhile, about 92% of burglaries were left unsolved in 2025.

The question is simple:

Should police resources focus more heavily on burglary, theft and violent crime, or should unlawful communications offences receive the same priority?

Britain was left devastated after the Second World War. Homes and communities had been destroyed, yet millions of people stayed, worked and helped rebuild the country.

Today, Britain is having another heated debate — this time over immigration, asylum and the pressure on public services.

Some argue that Britain should expect newcomers to work, contribute and integrate rather than depend on the state.

Others argue that people fleeing war or persecution deserve protection, and that comparing today's migration with Britain's post-war experience is too simplistic.

More than 1 million pensioners are now paying income tax at 40% or above.

New figures obtained through a Freedom of Information request show that the number has risen from 494,000 in 2021/22 to 1.092 million in 2026/27. The number paying the additional 45% rate has also roughly trebled.

One major reason is fiscal drag.

Tax thresholds have remained frozen while pensions and other incomes have increased. That means people can end up paying a higher rate of tax without necessarily feeling significantly better off in real terms.

For many people, retirement was supposed to be the reward for decades of working, saving and paying into the system.

So here's the question:

Should pensioners who have built up retirement income through a lifetime of work be protected from being pulled into higher tax bands?

Notting Hill Carnival's 2026 policing operation ended with 560 arrests and 62 weapons seized, including a handgun.

Police also dealt with two knife assaults, although neither resulted in life-threatening injuries. A man in his 20s died after entering a canal while being pursued by officers near the event; the circumstances have been referred for independent investigation.

At the same time, the Metropolitan Police said the Carnival was largely without incident and that serious violence had fallen for a second consecutive year.

Keir Starmer has announced that he is stepping down as the MP for Holborn and St Pancras, ending 11 years representing the constituency and triggering a by-election.

The former Prime Minister had previously indicated that he intended to remain an MP until the next general election.

Now, just weeks after leaving Downing Street, he is leaving Parliament altogether.

Starmer says he wants to focus on international affairs, defence, security, trade and technology, as well as continuing work on violence against women and girls.

His departure also creates an early political test for his successor, Andy Burnham, with a by-election now coming in a Labour-held London seat.

Was Starmer right to leave Parliament — or should he have stayed on as an MP?

Being left on a hospital floor while experiencing severe pain is the kind of situation that makes people ask serious questions about the NHS.

A&E departments deal with huge pressures every day, and staff are often working under incredibly difficult conditions.

But from a patient's perspective, being in pain, frightened and waiting for hours can be a deeply distressing experience.

The bigger question is about patient dignity and standards of care.

How long should someone have to wait before basic comfort and proper attention become unacceptable?

The UK government continues to provide military support to Ukraine and increase pressure on Russia through sanctions.

But Russia has now warned that British military targets could be targeted in retaliation for Britain's support, including the use of British-supplied missiles by Ukraine.

That raises an uncomfortable question:

Is Britain doing enough to support Ukraine — or is the Government taking unnecessary risks with Britain's security?
