APF FEST RETURNS FOR 2026. ๐Ÿค˜

On 12th September, weโ€™re back at Rebellion Manchester for another full-scale celebration of all things APF.

Joining us this year are Gandalf the Green, The Brothers Keg, A Horse Called War, Tides Of Sulfur, NXMAD, Trevor's Head, Praetorian and our favourite alumni Desert Storm.

Weโ€™ll also be hosting a special listening party for the forthcoming Spider Kitten album, which youโ€™ll get to hear before it comes out, through that monstrous Rebellion PA.

8 bands and an album premiere. All day shenanigans. SHOULD BE FUN. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Next weekend we'll mostly be celebrating the 10th anniversary of Mastiff's debut album Wrank entering the world. ๐ŸคŸ

This weekend, however, we'll be packing up and posting the CDs and tees we've had made to celebrate the occasion. Cheers to the tonne of you who've grabbed one from the APF webisphere and Bandcamp so far. ๐Ÿ˜˜

Listening to it today, Wrank remains pure nastiness. Raw, unfiltered misery. It sounds as fresh (and repugnant) as it did back in 2016. Essential for anyone who likes their music searingly heavy.๐Ÿ˜Ž

Happy Friday all. ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

Mastiff 2016 and 2026.

The 2016 line-up of Wright, Dennett, Hodge, Johnson and Shepherd recorded their debut album WRANK, which APF is reissuing this month on CD with a t-shirt. You can find it now on the APF webisphere, and tomorrow on Bandcamp. ๐Ÿ‘Œ

The 2026 version - Shep, Jam, Johnson, Dolby and Big Jim - recently put out the awesome For All The Dead Dreams via Church Road Records. ๐Ÿค˜

In between there's been BORK, Plague, Leave Me The Ashes Of The Earth and Deprecipice - each one progressively more feral, all of them terrifyingly, miserably brilliant. WHAT a band they are. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Mastiff for life. ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

In February 2016, Mastiff dropped Wrank on an unsuspecting public. It blew everyoneโ€™s heads off (including mine) and led directly to APF signing the band for 2017โ€™s BORK EP.

Long out of print on CD, Wrank returns via APF for its 10th anniversary with a new CD pressing and t-shirt, featuring fresh artwork, on the albumโ€™s birthday: 22nd February.

It sounds as incendiary as it did a decade ago.
Limited to 50 copies.
You need it in your life.

Happy anniversary to Mastiff. Their seminal Plague album was released 7 years ago today. ๐ŸŽ‰

Is there anything left to say about this landmark, feral record? "From the roller-coaster downward spiral of Hellcircle, through Bubonicโ€™s ear-shattering powerviolence, to 69-second nightmare Brainbleed, thereโ€™s nowhere to hide, before nine-minute closer Black Death blots out any last remaining light with a rising tide of apocalyptic doom", said Kerrang! at the time. "Shades of grind pioneers Na**lm Death, aggro-tastic U.S. brutalists Nails and the swampy, kaleidoscopic acid-trip imagery of Crowbar bleed through everywhere." ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

We have something interesting to tell you about Mastiff during the week ahead, so stay tuned. In the meantime, if you haven't heard it already go check out their latest EP, the ferocious For All The Dead Dreams, released in October by Church Road Records. It will burn the hair off your head. ๐ŸคŸ๐Ÿ˜Ž

It's an APF double anniversary day. ๐ŸคŸ

Voidlurker's Industrial Nightmare EP landed 6 years ago today. Featuring live staples Jeffrey Doomer and Bitchcraft And Misery, it was described by Kerrang! as "a gem for anyone who wants to hear what Black Sabbathโ€™s heaviest moments might have sounded like if they were even heavier". They nailed it. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Meanwhile, it's a happy 1st birthday for Praetorian's Pylon Cult album. "Praetorian bring the dirtiest riffs from the sludge scene and pair them with black metal starkness", said Musipedia Of Metal, "raging, screaming, growling and grunting their often sarcastic, satirical words with gargantuan chunks of riffage". Accurate.๐Ÿ‘Œ

Both heavy, both immense, both classic APF releases. Love both bands. Happy Saturday all! ๐Ÿ˜˜

I'm always doing posts about what reviewers say about an album, but I've never done one about what people who've actually bought or streamed it have said. Let's change that right now. Here's what you're saying about Under's What Happened In Roundwood:

"A blackly comic, surreal and downright unsettling cinematic sludge/noise masterwork. I canโ€™t imagine that I shall encounter a more challenging or cathartic release this year. A quite staggeringly good LP. Favourite track: Felling." - Desusureiyฤ (via Bandcamp)

"It does an excellent job of blending twisted melodies with some king-sized weight and a healthy dose of paranoia! There aren't many bands who could do that and still keep it appealing! Its been a fixture on the turntable over the weekend; each play revealing another layer of interest. Interestingly, I'm reminded of Layne's last studio album with Alice in Chains, but with more serial killer vibes!" - Bean (pictured - via Instagram)

"Exceptional. Hopefully this album gets the recognition it deserves." - Doompsychkrautelectro (via Instagram)

"Loving it! Iโ€™m on my 4th listen!! Cracking album!!" โ€“ Dave Broadbent (via Facebook)

"The album is KILLER. Well done chaps." โ€“ Dan Dolby (of Mastiff)

Not heard it yet? Have a word with yourself. ๐Ÿ˜˜

Under launching their new album What Happened In Roundwood in fine style at Rebellion Manchester. ๐ŸคŸ

They were immense, naturally. Killer sets from Urzah and Tides Of Sulfur as well. ๐Ÿ‘Œ

The only proven cure for January blues is ferocious, angular metal played at searing volume. Thus, for those of us who live in the North West, it's well timed that Under, Tides Of Sulfur and Urzah are in town to play Rebellion Manchester tonight. ๐Ÿ‘Œ

Because we're all skint as we last got paid a zillion years go - or at least that's how it feels - it's a bonus they've kept the cost down to a tenner. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Looking forward to hearing Under tear through new album What Happened In Roundwood. Urzah will likely play stuff from last year's A Scorching Gaze, whilst peppering their set with tracks from their forthcoming album which is presently burning a hole in my hard drive. And if Tides Of Sulfur play Downhill from 2023's Apathy Chasm I'll definitely head home with the world's biggest smile on my face. ๐Ÿ˜

Maybe see some of you later. Happy Saturday all. ๐Ÿ˜˜

Happy release day to Under. What Happened In Roundwood is out in the world. ๐ŸคŸ

I've spent the last 6 months trying to figure out how to describe it. Best I can manage: it's an acid nightmare. Imagine (the) Melvins jamming with The Jesus Lizard and Fantรดmas. Throw in some avante-garde sludge, prog doom, atonal jazz and a healthy dose of noise rock for good measure. I prefer to just call it Uneasy Listening. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Can you do any better? Give it a spin and let me know in the comments. ๐Ÿ‘Œ

Under play Rebellion Manchester this Saturday with Tides Of Sulfur and Urzah. Come have your brain re-wired. Should be fun.

Happy Friday all. ๐Ÿ˜˜
