The Leigh and District Talking News was a cassette recorded newstape for visually impaired and blind readers in the Leigh, Atherton and Tyldesley area from 1977 until 1995.
Newsreaders read articles from local newspapers onto cassette tapes that were distributed to our readers by post every two weeks.
I was editor of the service and I am now considering resuming the service using Facebook.
The news service will be able to pass on local news and items of interest from Facebook groups
I have set up a page which currently has a link to a podcast about the history of the Leigh and District Talking News.
I am currently finding the best ways to make the page easily accessible for visually impaired and blind users and the best media to carry the articles it could be podcasts or video files.
Please take a look at the page by clicking this link:

If you would be interested in receiving notifications once the service is started please like the page.
If you would like to be involved in the production of the page i.e reading news, sourcing material or can help with technical production of the page please leave your comments and ideas on the page or email your ideas to: [email protected]
