We’ve had to unleash our secret weapon in the hunt for new locations… Piper the dog.

Warning: resistance is futile. One look into those eyes and suddenly you’re saying “of course you can put an A3 frame up in here.”

If your place is dog-friendly in Cheshire, Manchester or Warrington, let us know. Piper will handle negotiations (payment accepted in belly rubs and treats).

New plaque, new ways to get seen.

Continually moving Spiky Carrot forward is a goal in itself, and one part of that is improving how easy it is for people to notice us out in the real world.

A few months ago, we introduced a small plaque at the bottom of our frames — a step up from the little stickers we first used. It was a bit of trial and error, and once more frames went up, we realised something: sometimes the plaque would work better in a different position. The fixed bottom-left spot (chosen so the carrot icon could hang over) wasn’t always ideal.

So, back to the drawing board.

The new version solves that. It can now be placed in different spots around the frame to suit the space, while also creating the illusion of floating off the frame to make it stand out even more.

The design itself has been sharpened, keeping the Spiky Carrot icon at the centre, while working well on any background or surface colour.

Always learning, always improving.

Who remembers the dog?

Something surprising happened yesterday that really made me stop and reflect. I got a message on Instagram from Trayana (someone I’d never met before). She was out at Into the Wild with her family and snapped a photo. To my surprise, in the background was Spiky Carrot’s very first ever physical board – still standing strong!

That picture hit me harder than I expected. It reminded me just how far Spiky Carrot has come since those early days. When I first got that board made and placed at Into the Wild 12+ months ago, I had no idea where this journey would take me. Starting your own business is scary, full of ups and downs, and at times you question whether you can keep pushing forward.

The photo was more than just a surprise – it was a reminder. A reminder of determination, patience, and the energy it takes to build something from the ground up. Things don’t happen overnight.

So a huge thank you to Trayana & samjayheaton.com for the permission to share and for the smile you gave me when that message landed.

The “dog stock photo” has since retired and the carrot pin has taken its place, but this moment brought back so many memories of when I didn’t know what direction Spiky Carrot would head.
