There are few bands that can boast the same level of critical acclaim and sticking power as . THE poster band of early 2000s gothic music, The Horrors’ influence has been felt across music, fashion and underground subculture for the past two decades.

Celebrating their 20th anniversary this year, 2025 saw The Horrors return to the live scene with a brand-new album and line up.

Night Life, the band’s first full length offering in 8 years, marks a new chapter in The Horrors’ story. Taking a new sonic outlook, Night Life is the band’s first album not to feature all 5 original members, instead the new line up is centred around the core duo of vocalist Faris Badwan and bassist Rhys Webb, joined by Amelia Kidd on keys and Telegram’s Jordan Cook on drums.

We headed down to Manchester’s New Century Hall to see how this new era would play out on a live stage.

2025 has been a seminal year for one of the UK’s brightest (and often referred to as nicest) hip-hop stars, Loyle Carner. Mere days after releasing his latest album hopefully!, the South London singer gave a stellar performance on Glastonbury’s Other Stage, before flying out to Oslo to begin the European leg of his world tour. He then spent the entirety of November back in the UK playing sold out shows almost nightly.

With hopefully! Loyle Carner enters a transitional period, in both his life and his music. 2024 saw the well-loved wordsmith become a father for the 2nd time, and hopefully!, which was released in June, is a true reflection of this slower, more measured, and contemplative chapter in his life.

The anger and attitude of 2022’s Hugo seems to have subdued in this new period. Instead hopefully! sees Loyle Carner’s confessional storytelling take a more meandering, contemplative form, whilst still being delivered with the same frank honesty that has become his signature.

With a new sound and new perspective comes a new live show, and we decided to check out this latest album cycle ourselves, when LC’s world tour took a stop in Manchester.

Last week we got the chance to catch at Manchester Academy; a comeback show, with a difference.

Thursday 6th November had been marked in any Mancunian Hard Life fan’s calendar for months, the date that these underdog heroes would make their return to the city —armed with a new name, new songs and a renewed blazing passion for performing. Something that just a mere 12 months ago seemed so far out of reach.

Musically tighter than ever, filled with a new unflappable determination, yet still finely skilled in the art of making sure absolutely everyone at their show has a good time, one thing is clear, Hard Life are back, and more boisterous then ever.
