FREE DAY OUT!
The sun is out and we can finally start making good use of the free activities that there are to do! Hikes, climbing, picnics, and trails - I’ll be doing all of them either solo or with family this summer and getting the most out of the free activities.
Black Rocks in Matlock is a great place to start.
A short walk from the car park (free parking though if you park on the road!) and you’re at a climbable rock formation with stunning views across Matlock and the Derbyshire Dales. There’s a cafe onsite and toilets at the bottom, and if you’re up for a hike it connects onto the High Peak Trail too. There’s plenty of things to climb, and some beautiful picnic areas - one of those places where you could either spend the whole day or just pop by for a quick visit.
They also have various engine steam room displays happening across the summer weekends too. Check the Derbyshire County Council website for more info.
As always, send me some great hiking spots!
