Can’t believe it’s been 15 years! One of my favourites, one of Dads favourites! In The Name of the Father was probably the first time I saw him on screen, incredible actor.
Remembering the wonderful English actor Pete Postlethwaite, who passed away on this day in 2011 at the age of 64.
Postlethwaite's first major success arose through the 1988 film Distant Voices, Still Lives, and he later had a breakthrough in Hollywood when he portrayed David in Alien 3. His international reputation was further solidified when he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Giuseppe Conlon in 1993's In the Name of the Father.
Some of Postlethwaite's other notable credits include James and the Giant Peach, The Usual Suspects, Treasure Island, Split Second, Dragonheart, Solomon Kane, Romeo + Juliet, Brassed Off, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, The Last of the Mohicans, Among Giants, The Serpent's Kiss, Amistad, The Shipping News, The Town, Dark Water, The Omen remake, The Constant Gardener, and Inception, to name a few.
Following Postlethwaite's death, director Steven Spielberg praised him as "the best actor in the world."
