Middlesbrough neighbourhood policing team officers have worked closely with Middlesbrough Council colleagues to secure another closure order at a town centre property.
After a number of complaints made by residents and warnings issued to the tenant without any success, a closure order application was made by officers with the support of Middlesbrough Council’s Neighbourhood Safety Officers.
On Thursday 18th September, Teesside Magistrates Court granted the three-month closure order for the property on Errol Street, following an array of complaints, meaning that the tenant must move out for a minimum of three months.
The complaints included constant noise and fighting in the early hours of the morning, drug-related activity, knife crime, people attending the address on off-road bikes and riding dangerously, along with a dog at the property which had reportedly tried to attack residents in the street, and police officers on occasions when they attended the address.
A 45-year-old woman has been charged with being owner / person in charge of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury and she is due to appear in court on 20th October.
The court deemed the closure order necessary to prevent the nuisance, disorder and criminality from continuing and escalating.
🗣️ Middlesbrough neighbourhood team PCSO James Elford said: “We don’t accept that residents should live in misery due to the behaviours of a minority of people, and will take action wherever we can to stop those behaviours.
“We will continue to work closely with Middlesbrough Council, and I extend our thanks to the Neighbourhood Safety Team for their support with this closure order.
“Those who cause misery for others and choose to ignore warnings should expect that police and the local authority will look to remove them from those communities wherever necessary.”
🗣️ Councillor Ian Blades, Middlesbrough Council's Executive member for Neighbourhoods, said: “Properties like these cause untold misery to those living nearby, and can blight entire neighbourhoods.
“This closure is a victory for law-abiding members of the local community, and I’m grateful to Cleveland Police, with the support of our Neighbourhood Safety team, for their work to secure it.
“Results like this are only possible with the ongoing support of the public – come to us with your concerns and we will take action.”
