FILMING 🎥 IN 🎥 PROGRESS 🎥
I thought I would share some of my journey since I began filming to be totally transparent about the challenges I have come across, hopefully to make anyone else in my position feel comfort and a sense of normality.
Firstly I'm bulk filming to ease the pressure off of my weekly episodes, my weekly routine and so I can focus on editing and getting back into work.
Truthfully I am in a fortunate position.
First day of filming I had about 3 guests reschedule dates, which is super normal, but at this time I had a studio booked, so for me personally I had to adapt to my budget and honestly I just threw out one of my sofas to make space for my podcast in my flat, this cut down the costs of £65 a day for a studio hire.
On one of the studio days I had booked, my first guest was so patient with me. I'm learning and the camera had cut out, the mics both kept cutting out and as awful and humiliating as that was, I'm so lucky to have a partner who could quite literally SAVE MY ASS and brought over replace equipment and set it all up for me.
I don't want to waste anyone's time. I don't want to let any of my guests down, so it was really important to me to make sure I could have this "standard" to expect whilst filming. So when I have these issues I really beat myself up as I don't want to frustrate any of my guests!
I did all of the tests before I even began filming so I have multiple camera batteries, keep the laptop on charge whilst recording etc.
The episodes have been going so well, I've truly chosen such great guests who are open to discuss so much about their lives and I couldn't be more thankful.
I thought I had really mastered all this stuff by the 4th episode I filmed this evening, however after my guest had left I realised that I had a technical problem. One of the 2 mics were not recording. I could burst into tears. But the bright side is there is 2 mics plus a camera. With some magic on my editing I know I will not waste this episode, but I have most definitely learnt that I need someone in the room to keep an eye on the robots I'm relying on. Technology may seem straight forward but it can let you down sometimes
