Prior to starting the company the founder, John Allard spent most of his career in IT projects and managed services. In the 1990s he worked extensively on newly emerging digital video and e-commerce services in healthcare, banking and other sectors. This included time with IBM as a National Manager helping launch the World’s first Medical TV news and information service and the world’s first Virtual health exhibition project. John went onto mange the successfully launch of a Public Health eLearning solution called Wellness Checkpoint for Canadian company InfoTech Inc. in partnership with the Health Education Authority (a fore runner of Public Health England opening up over 75 contracts in both private and public sector companies). Other roles included managing eHR and eLearning IT strategy whilst working with Cable & Wireless as a Global IT director, then eBanking and Mobile consumer billing projects for Tesco. All of these projects applied the use of video with animation plus made full use of the early gestation of the internet.
With the rapidly falling costs of video technology and the arrival of YouTube to launch an embryonic managed service for fast, simple video production service along similar lines to an IT outsourcing service. So in 2010 he launched Video Expression Ltd as a one-man business and began developing basic green screen video production services, creating promotional videos for local businesses in Hampshire and Sussex.
In 2011 John partnered up with TVPP, a well established Hampshire based commercial video company run by Emmy Award-winning TV producers Rosie and David Bowen-Jones. The two companies worked closely together learning from one another. This is where John expanded his capabilities and learned what it really took to create quality corporate video production.
In 2013 John moved back to Milton Keynes where he’d originally raised his family as this was a far better geographic base to build a national company, well placed to service the London market and whole of UK. The company operated from a business incubator run by MK College and where John was able to benefit by taking his company through a 6 month long business development course run by Laurence Coen, a former Digital Marketing Director of Diageo. This is where he formulated the blueprint for the future development of TVNF to advance to the next stage and re-branded the company as “The Video News Factory”.
