🚨 Breaking News: The “Brit Card” is Coming 🚨

From tomorrow, the government is set to announce Digital ID cards for every UK adult.
They’re branding it as a move to “tackle illegal migration” — but let’s be honest, this is far bigger than that.

📲 Every adult. Every ID verified. Linked to your digital footprint.
🪪 Think of it as a mandatory “Brit Card” — whether you like it or not.
⚖️ Questions are already flying: civil liberties, data security, enforcement, even the quiet whispers of “conscription made easier.”

Urban Voices will be keeping a close eye on this one. Expect updates, explainer posts, and the straight talking you won’t always hear on the big broadcasters.

👉 What do YOU think — is this about safety and order, or control and overreach?

🚨 URBAN VOICES INVESTIGATES: ATTENDANCE VS COMPASSION 🚨

As part of our wider investigation "Beneath the System" which started in May, over the past couple of days, we’ve been digging deeper into how schools are applying the 2024 amendments to attendance legislation — and what we've found is deeply troubling.

Families of children with SEND are being told “the law leaves no room,” while compassion, consistency, and common sense are being pushed aside.

📉 Families of children with excellent attendance records are being threatened with fines over one-off family circumstances.
🧠 Neurodivergent pupils are being treated as statistics, not as individuals with complex needs.
⚖️ Families are being left feeling criminalised — when what they actually need is support.

Let’s be clear: the law still allows for “exceptional circumstances.” The problem is not the legislation — it’s how it’s being enforced.

Urban Voices is watching closely. We’re documenting case after case where SEND families are being pushed into impossible corners by rigid policy and inconsistent decisions.

This isn’t about one school.
This isn’t about one family.
It’s about a system that forgets that behind the numbers are real children, real parents, and real lives.

If you’ve experienced similar issues, we want to hear from you. 🗣️

🚨UK Emergency Alert Test – Sunday 7th September 2025 at 3pm 🚨

The UK Government will be testing the Emergency Alerts system on Sunday 7th September at 3pm.

What this means:

If you have a mobile phone or tablet, you will receive a loud siren-like sound and a message on your screen.

The test will last for around 10 seconds.

You don’t need to do anything.

The Emergency Alerts system is designed to warn people if there is a danger to life nearby, such as:

1. Flooding

2. Fires

3. Severe weather

Important information:

You don’t need to share your number or personal details – the government does not collect this.

Your phone does not need mobile data or Wi-Fi to receive the alert.

If you are driving when the alert comes through, do not pick up your phone.

For more details, visit 👉 gov.uk/alerts

We know loud unexpected sounds can be unsettling for some people, so please help us share this information widely with family, friends, and the community.

🚨 Shout-out for our friends at Radio Stitch (Hospital Radio North Tees)! 🚨

They’re looking for someone local who can help link their two studios together with a proper network connection. It’s all volunteer-run and charity-based, so they’re hoping for someone who could lend their skills for free.

This kind of setup usually means:
🔌 Networking the two studios (same site or VPN)
🎚️ Carrying audio between them (AoIP – e.g. Cleanfeed, BUTT, or Barix units)
🎛️ A way to switch which studio is live

If anyone in our network has broadcast engineering / networking know-how and might be willing to lend a hand, please give them (or me) a shout. These kinds of community stations are powered purely by volunteers, so any help really does make a massive difference.

We’ll be volunteering what support I can from the Urban Voices side, but extra hands (or brains!) would be amazing. 🙌

We were proud to be on the ground yesterday, covering this awesome community event with our fabulous rainbow mics 🎤🌈 — capturing the very community voices Susan Dungworth - Northumbria Police & Crime Commissioner is talking about. From EPiC to Fire & Rescue, Northumbria Police, council and community leaders, we had the chance to hear first-hand what this day meant. And aye, even a couple of the bairns gave us their thoughts too — which really shows the heart of events like this.

British actor Terence Stamp, one of the defining faces of 1960s cinema and best known to global audiences as General Zod in the Superman films, has died at the age of 87.

Stamp passed away on Sunday morning, 17 August 2025. His career spanned more than six decades, marked by a combination of critical acclaim and popular recognition.

He first came to prominence with an Oscar-nominated performance in Billy Budd (1962) and went on to win Best Actor at Cannes for The Collector (1965). His striking looks and commanding presence made him a key figure of “Swinging London.”

International audiences most often remember him for his portrayal of the villain General Zod in Superman (1978) and Superman II (1980), where his chilling delivery of “Kneel before Zod” entered pop culture history.

Stamp also demonstrated his versatility in roles such as Bernadette in The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994), earning both BAFTA and Golden Globe nominations, and as Wilson in Steven Soderbergh’s The Limey (1999). Later credits included Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999), Valkyrie (2008), and Last Night in Soho (2021).

Beyond his screen career, Stamp spent time in India exploring spirituality and later became an author, publishing memoirs and writings on self-discovery.

Stamp leaves behind a body of work that influenced generations of filmmakers and actors. Tributes are already pouring in across the film world, reflecting the breadth of his impact.
