This is my second attempt at turning a bowl on the pole lathe. This time from alder; I was concentrating on getting the bowl nice and thin and think I’ve achieved it as there are points that are translucent in the sunlight.

This is a little something Woodgate Forge and I have been working on for your campfire & bushcraft kit - simply cut three sticks to length, post through the 1 inch holes in the 'topper' plate and you've got a tripod ready to hang your kettle or other pot over the campfire.

The 3 hole plate is precision cut from 6mm sheet metal with 2.5cm (1 inch) diameter holes. The hanging hooks are hand forged and shaped from 6mm round mild steel; they will vary in appearance and length slightly due to this but usually hang around 15 -20 cm's.

We've also made a slightly simpler hook version (shown in the last couple of picts) that allows the hook to be removed from the 'topper' plate so it can be stored & carried much easier.

With any luck this will be the final layer of thatch needing to go onto the roundhouse. Somehow this year has flown by and we didn’t get round to doing this during the warmer months so will be trying to get it done quickly now…
…we managed to add a layer almost halfway round the roof before it got dark and started to rain today. So we retreated inside and lit the fire.

We have a family of mice living in the walls and in the roof - we can hear them squeaking and scurrying around sometimes when sitting quietly.

As always, thanks to for sorting the reeds for us :)
