⚡ Keeping a Constant Flow of Customers ⚡

Last week I rewired a house. Instead of just cracking on, I thought I’d be nice and pop a letter through next door’s door letting them know there might be some noise. 😁

Truth is… I wasn’t being completely honest.
The house I was working in had wiring from the 70s, so I guessed the whole street was the same. That means next door’s wiring was probably just as old.

So the “noise letter” was actually a light bit of humour — and it worked. They’ve now asked me to quote for a full rewire too!

👉 This is how you keep a steady flow of customers — by spotting opportunities right in front of you.

I’ve uploaded the exact letter template I used into the ToolBox Talks For Electricians group. Go grab it, tweak it, and use it to win more work yourself.

⚡ Did you know? The very first electrical tester dates back to 1820!

It wasn’t a multimeter like we know today… it was the galvanometer.
Basically, a compass needle that deflected when placed near a live wire carrying current. 🧭➡️⚡

From that simple idea came the testers we all rely on today — MFTs, volt sticks, clamp meters, the lot.

Pretty crazy to think sparks back then were using a compass to detect current!

👉 What was the first tester you ever used on the job?
(I’m betting some of you had some proper old-school kit!)

Inside a Day’s Work: Domestic Electrician Life 🔧🏡

Ever wondered what a day in the life of a domestic electrician actually looks like? This video takes you right inside a real domestic house where I’m working on a job — from planning out the cable runs to dealing with unexpected surprises you only get in people’s homes.

Whether it's rewiring a socket, fitting new lighting, or upgrading the consumer unit (fuse board), no two domestic jobs are ever the same. Every property has its quirks — thick walls, dodgy old wiring, or customer requests that change halfway through the job!

In this particular house, I walk you through the layout, what I’ve been asked to do, and how I’m tackling the job from a professional and practical standpoint. It's not just about doing the install — it’s about doing it cleanly, safely, and with as little disruption as possible to the people who live there.

You’ll also get tips along the way — from how I keep the job site clean in a client’s home to why I label everything clearly. These are the little things that can make or break your reputation as a domestic electrician.
