A wonderful, first-hand account of the lives of ordinary people during the Second World War
No great drama or histrionics, sometimes even a bit mundane; just an honest reflection of the everyday heroism of ordinary people living in the most challenging of times. The interesting insight into the work of a librarian, through the transition into wartime, the horror of the blitz, the importance of the work of RAF ground-staff, the skill, the boredom and the shenanigans. This book made me wonder, laugh, cry and also taught me a great deal about the area of South East London where my family also lived during the war.
