I have to say… I came to this work (NVR) a decade ago when I was assigned to work with a mother of four, whose violent, controlling partner had died (horribly). Her adolescent sons then terrorised the household. The services, at best, could offer nothing to help, and at worst, were blaming and punishing her. Before training in NVR, back then, all I could offer was a sympathetic ear for the six sessions she was entitled to.

For every adoptive parent, broken by child-to-parent violence, I have worked with since, there has been an equally committed parent also dealing with the same from their birth child, for multiple reasons -

- Early years experience before escaping domestic abuse or neglect.

- Neuro- and identity differences in a world where they see no viable future.

- Multiple examples from our leaders showing them that invasion, coercive control, and domination are acceptable ways to navigate their way through.

- Multiple and varying trauma, trauma, trauma...

Parent-blaming is endemic amongst traumatised professionals in traumatised organisations. Every so often (roughly every three years?), CPVA is highlighted in the press... for a bit...
