Simon Cox - Supporting Business Growth

Simon Cox - Supporting Business Growth Head of Policy at Northamptonshire Chamber of Commerce and MK Chamber of Commerce. Without business, we don't have an economy.

Director of NNBN, a Membership Organisation for Businesses, Charities and Organisations across Northamptonshire which supports business growth in Northamptonshire. Founder of the Kettering Business Network and Kettering Awards, Founding Member of the Kettering Town Centre Partnership, Business Mentor for young people. I am also a Trustee of Kettering Community Unit charity, member of the Bedford C

ollege Services Board and The Business Exchange in Kettering Board. I was awarded the Gold Award in 2018 for services to Young Enterprise and in 2021 named as an Volunteer Champion for Northamptonshire by the Federation of Small Businesses. In October 2021, I was thanked at the Kettering Business Awards by the Mayor of Kettering for services to small businesses. In February 2022, my wife and I launched NNBN - helping to drive our Northamptonshire community forward together. In October 2022, both Marie and I were presented with a “Highly Commendable” award in the Awards for our work in helping to bring people together for a common purpose. I am a member of the National Member Council for the Organisation of Responsible Businesses, member of the Northamptonshire Anchor Network, member of the Local Skills Improvement Plan Executive Group and was recognised by the FSB at the 2021, 2022 and 2023 national Volunteer Conference for support of small businesses locally in Northamptonshire. I’ve held meetings with Government officials twice in Downing Street representing our business community and hosted an event for Northamptonshire businesses in 2023 with the Business Minister Kevin Hollinrake which enabled businesses to engage with the Minister directly. Since the General Election, I have engaged with local MPs and will continue to do so. In October 2023, we launched the first NNBN Awards, an initiative to recognise businesses, charities and organisations through the Awards scheme which proved to be extremely successful,

In May 2024, I organised a visit to the Houses of Parliament to meet with MPs and our members from the county. I believe the voice of business is important and invite you to engage with our various initiatives going on to help drive our business community forward.

Tonight I will be homeless as I’m sleeping in a box at Northampton Town Football Club for The Hope Centre in Northampton.

For over 13 years, Hope’s Big SleepOut has been bringing our community together to raise awareness of homelessness and to raise vital funds – with more than £20,000 raised each year to support those who are homeless and vulnerable right here in Northampton.

In 2026, our event theme remains Cold and Unseen – a powerful reminder of the hidden struggles faced by so many people in our community who are forced to sleep rough or live without safe, secure housing.

Here's another video from my time I spent with Nick Wilson, the Disabled Adventurer, as I joined him in a power wheel chair to understand more about the challenges wheelchair users face.

I can honestly say that I really had to concentrate through this part of my time with Nick as I was concerned about knocking bins and rubbing up against cars and in some places, really had to focus on the tight gaps.

This is the team who have supported me with NN Clear Speakers as I practice my speaking and presentation skills.

I've been attending since June last year and feel so much progress has been made with opportunities to practice techniques, skills, new communication methods and gaining the support of the others there as well.

Tonight we could have cancelled...... but we didn't and what a meeting!

Well done to everyone who made it to Kettering Park Hotel & Spa for our first meeting of 2026 with a staggering 93% of attendees running businesses. Our previous record was 88% so good to smash this figure for our first meeting of 2026!

Thank you to Nick Wilson, the Disabled Adventurer who shared the work he is doing in Northamptonshire and beyond when it comes to accessability. Nick was the winner of our Special Recognition Award at last year's NNBN Awards and it was a pleasure to have him with us tonight, especially on such a wet and horrible night. If you aren't following him, then make sure you do!

We also heard from Zoe Martin from Picture the DIfference CIC who shared information of how businesses can support Kett Fest 2026 and if you would like to get involved and join our other NNBN - The Northamptonshire Business Network members, Hanwood Park, Kettering Town FC and Tresham College (Part of The Bedford College Group) then please do connect with Zoe.

Finally, a huge thank you to Andrew Browne from A2B Exterior Cleaning for running the signing in desk tonight, to the table hosts Fiona Stacey from Fiona Stacey Sales Specialist and Rupert and Angela Turton from Blue Dragonfly Group and congratulations to Rebecca Steers from NLive Radio for winning the Member Minute.

If you are interested in booking in for future network meetings with NNBN - please visit https://nnbn.co.uk/events and book your space.

Goodbye 2025 and thank you for everything I've learned this year.

It's been another busy year and a year where I had a number of exciting adventures in business. Thank you to everyone for these incredible memories and adventures including TV and Radio appearances, visits to Westminster, MP engagement, representing local businesses in engagement opportunities and celebrating with business awards.

I joined the Northamptonshire Board of the LVEP (Local Visitor Economy Partnership), became a Director of West Northamptonshire Social Enterprise Towns CIC (WNSET CIC), continued to support local businesses through Open4Business on NLive Radio, judged the Weetabix Northamptonshire Food & Drink Awards and BBC Northampton Make A Difference Awards and spoke at events in schools and colleges about entrepreneurship and enterprise.

The exciting news is THERE'S MORE TO COME! My commitment is here for the long term and I can't wait to get back to business next week.

If I've learned something this year, it's that challenges can hit us and hurt us, but they can also define us and open up new opportunities and I'm looking foward to more adventures in 2026.

Thank you to all our NNBN - The Northamptonshire Business Network for their continued support and to the staff at the Northamptonshire Chamber of Commerce and Milton Keynes Chamber of Commerce for their support as well as we drive business engagement going into the future.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

Looking back at 2025, its certainly been a busy one and one that has been full of ups and downs, however, rest assured, I will do what I can to continue supporting local businesses at a local, regional and national level so we can continue moving forwards.

Still lots to do so roll on 2026!
