Hi everyone, 👋

Just a few days left before we break up for a much needed, very overdue holiday! 😎

We are in the shop as usual for the rest of the week up until 1.30 Saturday. After Saturday we will be closed for a week. ⛱

If there is anything you need, come on over before we head off on our little adventure. (You can always leave us a WhatsApp or email whilst we’re away and we’ll pick it up upon our return.) ⛵️

Reunited at long last! 😍
The Oxford power couple is back! 💪💪💪

After a long stretch of ‘zero stock available’ the canopy cleaner is now back in store! 🧼🫧🧽🪣

So whip down that cratch and pram cover (which will do wonders for improving the air flow onboard in this warm weather! 🥵) and get your scrub on!

This foaming spray cleaner removes organic grime, including bird p**p 🐦 and leaves a mould resistant finish. (Can be used diluted for a lighter clean.) Cleans and sanitises in one operation.

Follow up with the re-proofer to waterproof and protect from UV which will help to prevent fading of the material. ☀️

‘Hey there, big buoy!’ 🛟

well… it’s a fender not a buoy, but then we couldn’t open the post with a stupid pun!

The cursed and hated rubber fenders… now in XL!!! Wait… hear us out… these larger cousins to the rubber fenders we all know (and mostly hate) are twice as long, larger diameter and comes with over 2meters of quality softline polypropylene rope. They are made of a more forgiving EPDM material than the smaller ones and they also FLOAT (so if they do find their way into the water, they’re less likely to get tangled up on somebody’s prop!)

We were recently approached by a couple of boaters who moor against a pontoon the underside of which sits very close to their gunwale top, they were looking for something to prevent the boat drifting under the pontoon and offer the side of the boat some protection. Voilà!

We have a small batch of these fenders in store to get an idea whether or not it’s something there’s call for, priced at £18.50 each. You’re welcome to come and take a look for yourself.

(Googly eyes not included but can be added at no extra cost. 🤪🤪)

P.S we don’t recommend boating with fenders down. 🛳

We’re really looking forward to this refresher course, which promises to be a hands-on session packed with practical insights. 🛠🛠🛠

Do I need an anchor? ⚓️

If river boating is something you’ve been thinking of trying, or perhaps the breaches and stoppages in the north have reduced your options via the canal network, the short answer is yes… Well, let’s hope you don’t ‘need’ an anchor, but if you’re going to or thinking of heading out on any other river it’s definitely a good idea to have one! (Just in case!)

At Johnson’s Chandlery we have a selection of new and pre-loved anchors and chains in stock to suit various sizes of boat. ⛓

Buying pre-loved is kinder on your pocket and kinder on the environment ♻️ and for something we hope you never have to use… why not save a few quid where you can!

Just a few of the names we’ve heard for this type of decorative rope work. Have you heard any others?

The cabin strings were originally used by working boats to dry the towing line for a butty or horse boat by hanging the coiled rope on the cabin side near the stove…‘chimney maggots’ so you don’t burn your hands when dipping a tall chimney for a low bridge and ‘can catchers’ MIGHT improve the chances of you catching your water can if it gets knocked off the roof by a low branch, but now days these items are mostly just decorative.

If you fancy adding something like this to your boat, come and have a chat with us, we have a selection of decorative rope items available for purchase in store (drop us a message if you’d like to discuss mail order) or if you’d like something made to your requirements, just give us a shout. 📣

We also stock white polyhemp rope if you’d like something that comes with the benefits a synthetic rope can offer.
