✨ Don’t miss tonight’s double meteor shower! 🌠💫
There's lots happening in the skies over the next few weeks and we are now officially in Perseid season, which lasts from around 17 July to 24 August every year.
Nights get longer and darker during August, and one of the first great stargazing events after the summer solstice is the Perseid meteor shower.
This year, it's predicted to peak at 21:00 BST (20:00 UT) on 12 August, but you can catch some astral action before then:
📅 July 29–30, 2025: Two meteor showers — the Delta Aquariids and Alpha Capricornids — will peak at the same time, delivering a radiant display of 40 to 60 shooting stars an hour. Some fireballs could be so bright, they’ll light up the entire sky for a few seconds.
✨ What You’ll See:
• Golden and green streaks from the Delta Aquariids
• Slow, fiery bursts from the Alpha Capricornids
• Occasional colorful meteors that seem to fall together
• All visible with the naked eye
🕐 Best Time to Watch:
Midnight to dawn (local time) — when Earth is facing the incoming meteor streams head-on.
📍 How to Watch:
• Head to a dark, wide-open space far from city lights
• Lie back, relax, and let your eyes adjust for 20–30 minutes
• No telescope required — just a bit of patience and wonder
• Face south for the best view
📸 Bonus Tip:
Use a tripod and long exposure settings to capture the trails. Or just put your phone down and soak in the moment.
There are lots of factors at play which affect how and whether you get to see the display, but if you're lucky, this is one of those nights where the universe reminds you how beautiful, mysterious, and awe-inspiring it really is - don’t miss it 💫
