Moon & Cauldron

Moon & Cauldron A multi-media, eclectic, spooky inspired artist & photographer living and working in the gorgeous PNW. I was born and raised in Nottingham, England.

Laura Irene Artistry is the hub for the works created by Laura Hall-Ritchie. When I was ten, my mother moved us to Grants Pass, Oregon. When we moved to America, I remember feeling overwhelmed with the change and how different everything was. I found solace in sketching, doodling, painting, exploring any kind of artistic outlet I could get my hands on. I loved researching the old masters and admir

ing their works. As I grew older, I continued to find comfort and happiness in self-expression and artistic creation. There was a space of many years where I put away my brushes and pencils and tried to focus on things I thought my attention was better spent on. As a result, I became a very unhappy person and felt very out of touch with who I was. I have since been in and out of art, and each time I left, I lost myself again. Coming in from another 'lost wander off" - it feels so good to be back! I have begun branching into "functional art", which in my case means exploring pottery, crochet, and physical items that can be explored through touch.

One day science will explain how I still have this handpainted ceramic twat-o-lantern trinket dish left…but today is not that day.

It’s burn, food, liquid and dishwasher safe…. Idk what you plan on doing with it, but there you have it.

Just one left and no plans to make another any time soon.

I’m in Seattle today at Cutie Fest at Cal Anderson park. One of my favorite things about the art and farm community that exists on these beautiful Sundays is the thriving trade and barter system.

Today I get to take home two dozen eggs in exchange for a couple of little trinket dishes - and I’m so thrilled to take these back to my family and make a fresh egg quiche, hard boiled eggs for my teens and some baked goods that need eggs.

I think in these weird times of economic uncertainty being able to barter for some necessary things is a really wonderful thing - and I’m so lucky to live in an area that encourages it. Thank you for the trade and the delicious eggs Hell or High Water Farms!.

You can find these all TODAY at at Wit Cellars in Prosser, Washington from 10-5pm.

Image Description: There is a series of 10 images featuring ceramic creations. The first is a set of brightly colored vulvas. Some feature holes for hanging, and some have ceramic floral decoration. The second image is a set of brightly colored ceramic fortune cookies, each one is a different color. The third image is a white ceramic heart plate with illustrations of books all over it. The fourth is a white ceramic envelope with a hole to hang. The fifth is a set of ceramic rainbow over cloud ornaments. The sixth is a blue cauldron with white flowers and an internal flower with a hole to hold incense sticks. The seventh image is a purple and teal ombré cauldron. Want to play with the Art Snacks Vending Machine? It’s super easy just follow these steps:

👉🏻 Come to a live event. This machine will be at every market from here on out. The schedule is pinned to the profile.

👉🏻 Pay - it’s just $15 for the cutest little art finds. Each snack is valued $15 - $20.

👉🏻Take a minute and decide which snack looks delicious (please don’t actually eat them). Sometimes everything’s a mystery, sometimes some are turned around for peeks. You can also ask for hints if you’re stressed about which to pick!

👉🏻When you’ve decided, gently insert the coin that lines up with the row you’d like to select from and then hit the button carefully (we’re still working on sturdy kinks). Your art will drop to the bottom for collection.

👉🏻Collect your art and get all the dopamine feel goods, some cute new handmade pieces, and the joy of supporting small makers.

Current Art Snacks are ceramic bits (ghosts and magnets) by myself, and beaded spiders from !

Are you an artist that wants to be featured in the Art Snacks Vending Machine? 👉🏻 Message me let’s talk!

Image Description: A video of a wooden toy vending machine. The machine has a sign that says “Art Snacks $15”. A woman in the video picks up a coin and puts it in the vending machine slot, chooses and presses a button. An item drops down to the lower slot. The woman removes the item and reveals it to be a handmade beaded spider.

These rainbow hangers / ornaments were definitely supposed to be out in time for Pride Month…..but, well…that didn’t happen. So here they are now!

I have just 6 of these available - but tbh I might keep one for myself. 🌈

Image Description: A set of ceramic rainbow ornaments lay on a backdrop. Each ornament has a rainbow over a cloud, with the colors in descending order of red, orange, yellow, green and purple. The clouds are white and the ornaments are glossy. The second image is a video and it is a slow pan over the same ornaments.

My class in baby head jar in basic black with a cork. I actually have two of these cuties available right now.

I think my favorite sale of these so far was to the lovey human who told me they were going to use it for a renaissance faire cosplay as a cup, and have a leather maker make a belt loop to fit around it to keep it secure (they’re food and liquid safe). I wish SO BADLY I had pics of this because that is such an amazing application 🤣. Actually, recalling that memory gives me an idea…..

My Story

Red Mermaid Studio is the shop hub for the works created by Laura Charlesworth. I was born and raised in Nottingham, England. When I was ten, my mother moved us to Grants Pass, Oregon. When we moved to America, I remember feeling overwhelmed with the change and how different everything was. I found solace in sketching, doodling, painting, exploring any kind of artistic outlet I could get my hands on. I loved researching the old masters and admiring their works. As I grew older, I continued to find comfort and happiness in self-expression and artistic creation. There was a space of many years where I put away my brushes and pencils and tried to focus on things I thought my attention was better spent on. As a result, I became a very unhappy person and felt very out of touch with who I was. Not too long ago, I gave up trying to fight against myself and again returned to my beloved painting. While I still classify myself as an amateur and a student of the arts, I am once again finding happiness and a sense of self in my brushes. Despite initially learning to paint with oils, my tool of choice currently is acrylics. I love playing with color and expression, growing through experiencing the free flow of pouring and fluid art, the looseness of knife painting, and the fine line detail from brushwork. It is through these methods that most of my works are created. I hope to one day pass on my love of art to my two young boys, who are already demonstrating a love for all things messy and colorful. If I can just figure out how to keep paint off everything I own (myself included), and pass that secret on, who knows what could happen! Red Mermaid Studio was born out of all of this, as a place to share my creations. I hope you like them!
