Moon & Cauldron

Moon & Cauldron A multi-media, eclectic, spooky inspired artist & photographer living and working in the gorgeous PNW. I was born and raised in Nottingham, England.

Laura Irene Artistry is the hub for the works created by Laura Hall-Ritchie. When I was ten, my mother moved us to Grants Pass, Oregon. When we moved to America, I remember feeling overwhelmed with the change and how different everything was. I found solace in sketching, doodling, painting, exploring any kind of artistic outlet I could get my hands on. I loved researching the old masters and admir

ing their works. As I grew older, I continued to find comfort and happiness in self-expression and artistic creation. There was a space of many years where I put away my brushes and pencils and tried to focus on things I thought my attention was better spent on. As a result, I became a very unhappy person and felt very out of touch with who I was. I have since been in and out of art, and each time I left, I lost myself again. Coming in from another 'lost wander off" - it feels so good to be back! I have begun branching into "functional art", which in my case means exploring pottery, crochet, and physical items that can be explored through touch.

It was brought to my attention recently that I’ve never done an introduction post here.

So 👋🏻 hi!

I’m Laura - the q***r, AudHD artist behind the lens, and the hands behind clay here at Moon + Cauldron.

I’m a maker, stitcher, ceramicist, and photographer with a love for the eerie, the spooky, the enchanting, and the beautifully human.

I’m inherently drawn to the unusual, the strange, and the sacred. My work often takes shape as cauldrons, ghosts, bones, and body-inspired vessels. My pieces are meant to hold not just flowers or coffee, but also ritual, story, and spirit. 🖤

Clay is where I currently mostly channel my love of the uncanny and the magical (my mediums are an ebbing lunar tide), but it’s not my only material. I also crochet, stitch, sew, create jewelry, wrap books, spellcraft, dabble in tarot and rune, and step behind the camera - offering photograph sessions for artists, makers, cosplayers, and anyone who wants to be captured in their truest form.

Everything I make - whether in clay or in photos - is about honoring the beauty found in the unique.

Stay awhile, and you’ll find ceramics, art, and photography woven together with a little bit of witchy wonder.

ID: A series of selfies of Laura. Laura is an 39yr old white woman with light violet and blue hair that goes to her shoulders and green eyes. She is wearing a black tank top with a couple of wire wrapped crystal necklaces around her neck. Her hand is touching one of the necklaces while she stares into the camera. You can’t see it but she’s thinking about cheese.

Here, have 20 zillion fortune cookie photos because LOOK AT THESE PRETTY BABIES! 🥠

I picked these up from the kiln this morning, and tomorrow I drive them to my client. I am so excited to give them to her.

🦇 There are two NEW bat hangings (previously posted) joining the lineup this time.

ALL available hangings can be found with me at TODAY through Sunday. Any hangings left will be listed on Etsy on Monday.

This is the last of the cloud series for awhile. The clay I need to make them isn’t sold locally, and I can’t get my hands another bag until next month. Then it will be a 4-6 week process to get them made and fired, so if you’re hoping for one for spooky season 👉🏻 now’s your chance.

📖 Exciting Mystery Book Pack Announcement 📖

Starting now, some packs will be marked as having something handmade, or directly from a small artist inside. 🎉

I’ve been adding some of my own pieces here and there, but am so excited to bring in other artists and be able to support my local maker community in more ways.

Artists are paid up front in cash for their small makes; and then they’re included inside the packs. I try to keep as themed with the books as I can - but this will be easier to do as I add more artists and expand the handmade inclusion inventory. (If you’re an artist interested in being included - reach out!)

Each handmade item will have the makers business card with it, so you can contact them directly, and know exactly who made it for you.

Joining me first is and their super cute bag charms / keychains. They’re all different, and can be found by looking for the “there’s something handmade in here!” Writing with a sticker on the back of the packs.

Can’t wait to get these into your hands!

My Story

Red Mermaid Studio is the shop hub for the works created by Laura Charlesworth. I was born and raised in Nottingham, England. When I was ten, my mother moved us to Grants Pass, Oregon. When we moved to America, I remember feeling overwhelmed with the change and how different everything was. I found solace in sketching, doodling, painting, exploring any kind of artistic outlet I could get my hands on. I loved researching the old masters and admiring their works. As I grew older, I continued to find comfort and happiness in self-expression and artistic creation. There was a space of many years where I put away my brushes and pencils and tried to focus on things I thought my attention was better spent on. As a result, I became a very unhappy person and felt very out of touch with who I was. Not too long ago, I gave up trying to fight against myself and again returned to my beloved painting. While I still classify myself as an amateur and a student of the arts, I am once again finding happiness and a sense of self in my brushes. Despite initially learning to paint with oils, my tool of choice currently is acrylics. I love playing with color and expression, growing through experiencing the free flow of pouring and fluid art, the looseness of knife painting, and the fine line detail from brushwork. It is through these methods that most of my works are created. I hope to one day pass on my love of art to my two young boys, who are already demonstrating a love for all things messy and colorful. If I can just figure out how to keep paint off everything I own (myself included), and pass that secret on, who knows what could happen! Red Mermaid Studio was born out of all of this, as a place to share my creations. I hope you like them!
