A multi-media, eclectic, spooky inspired artist & photographer living and working in the gorgeous PNW. I was born and raised in Nottingham, England.

Laura Irene Artistry is the hub for the works created by Laura Hall-Ritchie. When I was ten, my mother moved us to Grants Pass, Oregon. When we moved to America, I remember feeling overwhelmed with the change and how different everything was. I found solace in sketching, doodling, painting, exploring any kind of artistic outlet I could get my hands on. I loved researching the old masters and admir

ing their works. As I grew older, I continued to find comfort and happiness in self-expression and artistic creation. There was a space of many years where I put away my brushes and pencils and tried to focus on things I thought my attention was better spent on. As a result, I became a very unhappy person and felt very out of touch with who I was. I have since been in and out of art, and each time I left, I lost myself again. Coming in from another 'lost wander off" - it feels so good to be back! I have begun branching into "functional art", which in my case means exploring pottery, crochet, and physical items that can be explored through touch.

I currently have just 4 of these available. Each one hand painted (glazed) with a teeny tiny brush.

New little ghost babies 👻

A couple of wall pockets - you may remember these from …. Both have now sold.

ID: Two videos - each depicting a ceramic, handmade wall vase. They look like fun curvy but kind of square shapes, with a rounded little half jar on the front. The jars have drippy lines on them. Both have deep blue backgrounds with blue drippy lines on the jar parts. One of them has a snake detail. Both are water tight and could hold flowers.

A Ghosty with a besom here to sweep all your troubles away.

You may remember this cutie from the prompts. Not available on Etsy. I won’t be posting things online now until the holidays when the remaining live stock will go up. Shipping is absolutely still available; but you’ll have to purchase directly through me. I *can* make private Etsy listings if you prefer the security of a website.

When you’re very cute, and trying very hard to do a Christmas (Yule) spirit spooky. 👻

He’s gonna show up at midnight and go “boooooooo I’m ghost of Christmas starrrrrrsssss”. You must be very nice to him and do a wee run away so he feels ok about it. Give him a little confidence boost.

In any case; I glazed him and now here he is and he’s adorable. I just need to pick up a little cork as he’s hollow and can be used as a tiny stash jar. Just one available.

New cauldron available now on Etsy (always cheaper via dm) and in person.

This one is without lid, and features an ombré glaze of oatmeal, coral and lavender, with lavender flower details and a Triple Goddess.

✨Bat Wing Tonic ✨

A new cauldron just dropped. This one is a planter (with a lid for display when it’s not in use). Glazed in Sapphire float with bat details, including a hidden bat inside the lid. There are two drainage holes.

*This piece immediately sold at my live event today and is no longer available.

ID: A blue glazed cauldron with a pretty shift to the color. It has a round body with a label on the front that says “bat wing tonic elixir”. The lid has a round pull with bats on it, and a bat “locking” mechanism. Inside a bat is hidden in the lid top.

My Story

Red Mermaid Studio is the shop hub for the works created by Laura Charlesworth. I was born and raised in Nottingham, England. When I was ten, my mother moved us to Grants Pass, Oregon. When we moved to America, I remember feeling overwhelmed with the change and how different everything was. I found solace in sketching, doodling, painting, exploring any kind of artistic outlet I could get my hands on. I loved researching the old masters and admiring their works. As I grew older, I continued to find comfort and happiness in self-expression and artistic creation. There was a space of many years where I put away my brushes and pencils and tried to focus on things I thought my attention was better spent on. As a result, I became a very unhappy person and felt very out of touch with who I was. Not too long ago, I gave up trying to fight against myself and again returned to my beloved painting. While I still classify myself as an amateur and a student of the arts, I am once again finding happiness and a sense of self in my brushes. Despite initially learning to paint with oils, my tool of choice currently is acrylics. I love playing with color and expression, growing through experiencing the free flow of pouring and fluid art, the looseness of knife painting, and the fine line detail from brushwork. It is through these methods that most of my works are created. I hope to one day pass on my love of art to my two young boys, who are already demonstrating a love for all things messy and colorful. If I can just figure out how to keep paint off everything I own (myself included), and pass that secret on, who knows what could happen! Red Mermaid Studio was born out of all of this, as a place to share my creations. I hope you like them!
