My Experience 🔍👀

This explore was very interesting as a first time exploring a flower nursery, this place has been known to have a snooker table in the house but as you can see from the video the legs have been stolen, like why would you steal snooker table legs and leave the table behind?

anyway we did find lots of ornaments and a b***y prize certificate which was very interesting to say the least lol, we also found lots of history and family photos so all in all a very interesting explore plus found a crossbow weapon.

History 📜🗃️

Located on the valley above Matlock Bath, Derbyshire, Wapping Mine is an old shaft and adit working on the Moletrap Rake. It is a typical rake and pipe-vein working. It is believed that the mine was being worked as early as 1750's, most likely for the extraction of galena. Typical of a lot of mines in Derbyshire, the mine was reworked for fluorspar from 1924 onwards where the main areas of working where on the Moletrap Vein and the “Maze” which located at the north-west extremities of the mine. The main level of the mine relatively large and includes four larger stope workings.

My Experience 🔍👀

this mine was one of my first mines ive done so to me it was massive to others maybe not but other than that i really enjoyed this mine and would love to venture back and do Cumberland Cavern which is accessible via this mine but bring better lighting which i now have purchased. it is so strange to hear nothing but total silence and you really do have to shout as it feels like your voice is being swolled up, the air was breathable but would still recommend a mask and only with experienced people too as very easy to get lost, it was a constant temp and slighty humid.

History 📜🗃️

Bakewell Poor Law Union formally came into existence in July 1838 and a workhouse to accommodate 200 inmates was constructed in 1841 to designs by a Mr Johnson of Sheffield at a cost of £5,340. The admin block was constructed in a Jacobean style with a pair of infirmary blocks, a mortuary and separate casual and receiving wards being added by the end of the 19th century.

The workhouse later became ‘Bakewell Public Assistance Institution’ and finally Newholme Hospital under the NHS.

The site was earmarked for closure back in 2017, along with several other similar sized hospitals in Derbyshire, with closure eventually coming during Autumn 2024 after construction of a new ‘health centre’ next door.

My Experience 🔍👀

Not sure where to start as this is my 1st hospital I've done so I'm going tobe biased and say it was absolutely amazing and loved every second of it. It was that big I actually got lost and that was before I even went to the 1st floor lol anyway this hospital had still many of its original features and the power and heating was still on.

We did have the police called on us 👮🚔🚨🚓
They were super cool with us and left us to explore and asked us to secure on our way out.

Other than that it was a very interesting explore with the long corridors and wards, you can still smell that hospital 🏥 smell and still feel the atmosphere from when it was running as not long closed

Very recently abandoned as the electric and heating were still operational. all the equipment has been taken and hopefully repurposed but it does make you question why it was abandoned especially given the current state of the NHS and what will eventually happen to this building that could be used for NHS services or even turned into communal housing life for a charity to house abuse victims untill they can be homed in more pernament places or a rehab unit.
