Thank you Cheryl Pidgeon for going out yesterday and talking to parents on the school pick up. It’s refreshing to see someone actually engaging with parents and not simply pushing a leaflet through the door.
You are definitely right - Derbyshire County Council are reviewing school crossing patrols when a warden retires or leaves.
They then decide if the patrol is value for money, depending on traffic levels near the school.
That’s what they done at Sawley School Crossing on Wilmot Street.
Putting money before children’s safety - insane.

Cheryl was out this yesterday afternoon - talking to parents going to pick their children up from school.
Many parents were alarmed to learn that Derbyshire County Council reviews the cost viability of school crossing patrols, as and when the existing lollipop lady/ man leaves.
One parent expressed concern, saying:
“ I have to take my daughter to school the other side of Long Eaton and we use the crossing patrol because the road near the school is busy.”
Cheryl said: “ you can’t put a price on the safety of children. I will oppose the scrapping of any school crossing patrol. Our children’s safety must come first and many grandparents take their grandchildren to school, so they welcome the school crossing patrols too.
When the County Council reviews school crossing patrols the safety of children should come first, not penny pinching.”

We thought it was bad enough that Leicestershire County Council have announced that Tamworth Road will be have major roadworks between Plank and Leggit and Aldi for 16 weeks starting on the Tuesday after Download finishes. The annoying thing is that prior to this, a high voltage power cable has got to be laid from Toton Lane tram stop through Long Eaton and Sawley, through to the river.
The frustrating thing for us is that Derbyshire County Council are telling us nothing about this 😡

Derbyshire Police

Today is International Men’s Day.

Many of you will have special men in your lives – fathers, brothers, husbands, partners. With this year’s theme being ‘celebrating men and boys’, it’s a day to celebrate everything they do for us.

It is also a chance to remind them that they deserve help and support when they need it, too.

Studies suggest that men who experience crimes like domestic abuse are less likely to report them.

This International Men’s Day, we’re raising awareness of the help that is out there - by speaking up about something you’re struggling with, you’re both ensuring you get the support you need and showing other men and boys that it’s okay to reach out for help.

Support available for male domestic abuse victims can be found through the following:
➡️ The Elm Foundation: https://orlo.uk/NeD3c
➡️ Safer Derbyshire: https://orlo.uk/MvVsh
➡️ Derbyshire Domestic Abuse Helpline: https://orlo.uk/9Vmem
➡️ Respect Men’s Advice Line: https://orlo.uk/eQqWR

If you’re struggling with your mental health, support is available from the following:
🤝 Derbyshire Mind: https://orlo.uk/LOf0s
🤝 Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust: https://orlo.uk/Lte6R
You can also access further support and information on International Men’s Day here: https://orlo.uk/JmX2M

Update on campaign to keep guards on trains following the dreadful stabbings on train outside Peterborough

Cheryl Pidgeon of Derbyshire Community Party back RMT call to keep train guards.

What is clear from the appalling mass stabbing at Huntingdon is that quick reactions of the guard and other onboard crew in raising the alarm, meant that the seriousness of the situation was fully understood by control, signalling and the British Transport Police meaning appropriate action could be swiftly taken.

Cheryl Pidgeon said
“If Driver Only Services had run on that line at the time of the incident, it could not have been resolved as quickly, putting passengers further at risk.”

The RMT said:-

"We need a clear commitment a second safety critical member of staff will be a mandatory requirement for the services to run.”

"Passengers rightly value having the guarantee of a second member of staff on their services and RMT remains steadfastly opposed to Driver Only Operation.”

Every year in November - Sawley Parish Councillors start checking the salt grit levels in the bins.
Alan, Wendy and Dave have managed to check some of them - but If you notice any bins getting low - please contact them and they will get the salt grit topped up
The majority of grit bins in Sawley are the responsibility of East Midlands Homes.
Most salt grit bins are close to senior citizens bungalows - help local councillors keep our senior citizens safe this winter.

Reform Derbyshire County Council claimed it had sorted the pothole problem - fantasy tales from the County Council.
Pothole hell on Orchard Way, Long Eaton North.
That’s what you get when the REFORM Councillor walked away - failed to represent the area, took the pay cheque, then walked away - leaving the problems behind.
Cheryl Pidgeon now doing the job Reform failed to do - reporting the potholes to Derbyshire County Council for repair.
