Following last years’ successful Summer Open Day, Oldham Hockey Club are opening their doors once again and inviting you to a free, fun session of hockey that all the family can enjoy.

Whether you want to try hockey for the first time, are looking to get back into the sport or a regular player, the Club are encouraging people of all ages and playing abilities to join them on Saturday 16 August 2025, 11am – 1.30pm, at Newman Catholic College, Chadderton.

Great wines, food and music will all be on the menu as That Wine Cellar in Delph hosts a month-long birthday festival in August.

Ian Howard, owner of the popular cosy tasting room and wine shop on King Street, has organised the festival to mark his milestone 40th birthday on August 22.

All are welcome to ‘That Wine Cellar Fest’ which will include live music sessions on Sundays, food from Master Chef winner Simon Wood, Crisp Night, and the Big Delph Wine Tasting.

FriarmereCricket Club held the official opening of their new training net facility on Friday, July 25.

Players from all teams joined club officials for a night of celebrations.

The previous nets were 25 years old and no longer met the England Cricket Board standards. A whopping £25,111 was crowdfunded to upgrade the facility.

Yorkshire Day celebrations in Uppermill will see the white rose flying high and proud for the traditional ceremony and Country Fayre on Sunday, August 3.

Saddleworth’s administrative ties with Yorkshire were cut during local government re-organisation in 1974 but the annual event promotes the historic connection.

The occasion take place each year on the Sunday closest to August 1 to celebrate Saddleworth’s Yorkshire history, culture and identity.

Saddleworth Independent has learned the cordon at Greenfield's Wellington Road is not in place because of a fire but a suspected chemical leak or hazardous materials incident.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service has been approached for a statement about the scene at Wellington Industrial Park, at which its crews have been joined by Greater Manchester Police officers.
