Kids with ADHD grow up hearing, on average 20,000 more negative criticisms than their neurotypical peers; ‘be quiet’, ‘keep still’, ‘stop being weird’, ‘stop being so sensitive’, ‘stop interrupting’, and so much more.

These negative statements are why so many adults with ADHD experience RSD (rejection sensitivity dysphoria) and why an eye roll, a thumbs up response to a text message, a tut can feel like rejection, and a punch in the chest when it’s not that at all.

I’m working hard to heal myself for little Sarah but RSD has impacted me so massively and plays a part in life almost daily. It’s one of the biggest things I struggle with and it is a physical and emotional pain that is so hurtful and I truly despise!

Hills I would die on as an ADHDer (if my powerchair could get up the hill…)!

There’s probably a lot more but these are the top of the list! What would you add?

By the time you were 12 years old, you’d received 20,000 negative comments about yourself than your neurotypical peers, so no wonder rejection is like a gut punch to the chest.

A look you take the wrong way, someone laughs when you walk into a room, an ‘okay’ text that you read into and overthink - RSD has ruled my life. It’s brought me so much shame, so many tears and it’s not even on the diagnostic criteria for ADHD. It’s WILD.

It’s the biggest thing that rules me, the emotional dysregulation.

I’m currently reading Why Does Everybody Hate Me? and it’s incredible. Anyone with ADHD has to pick up this book, it’s SO insightful. I want everyone I know to read it so they’ll understand me better.

How does RSD show up for you?

Felt cute, definitely in bed now ✌🏻

This super lightweight polkadot dress is so pretty and easy to throw on.

They have it in a few different styles and because I’m autistic, I, of course bought them as well. When I find an item of clothing I like, I always buy it more than once 🙈 I didn’t realise this was an autistic thing until recently but there you go!

This little guy (my soul dog, my best friend in the whole world, my baby) has caused me a lot of stress the last few weeks and today he had surgery for a fatty lump under his armpit. The surgery went very well but he has a big wound with quite a few stitches. He’s been a very brave boy and is currently snoring away in his dinosaur pyjamas. Please send healing vibes 🐶❤️

4 Unhinged Thoughts I Have As A Wheelchair User with AuDHD

I think all of these things but don’t always necessarily say them out loud but sometimes I definitely do if I’m feeling confident.

As an AuDHD adult I can’t always advocate for myself, so I take the big boss with me - my mother!
