First tambour going spiffingly 💪👵🤟

Nah it’s fine, it’s saveable. Just a disagreement between me and a guide bush. Not helped by the fact the MDF I’m using is quite fluffy and likes to clog router bits. Lesson learnt: always buy the good stuff.

Nice opportunity to get a glimpse at how this coffee table is going to look once finished 🤩 Next step: Tambours 🫠

So while I’m away working in Dubai, Rob’s gone ahead and decided to sell all of my stuff. Couldn’t get a good price on a hitman to take him out so I guess I’ll just have to embrace it…

One of the eternal challenges I battle against is trying to uphold the tool production side of the business while simultaneously trying to work on the videos. Because without videos, our tool sales reduce. And without tool sales, we make f**k all money from videos alone 😂

This is an upcoming project that I’ve been trying to find time to work on over the past few months, and I’m finally beginning to make some decent progress with it. Just you wait and see how stupidly complex these legs become 😅

Also, fun fact: These legs are made from the same board of Walnut as the tail vice end cap on my Roubo Workbench. Which means I’ve been hoarding it for close to 8 years 😈

Been a bit quiet on the video front recently due to this lot arriving last month! 🪵
This is 300 blocks of Leadwood which we’ve been waiting for since July, and is destined to be used to make the Mallets that many of you pre-ordered last year.
If you placed a pre-order with us, I can’t thank you enough for being patient with us while we waited for this material to arrive! It’s had one hell of a journey getting here and has been a major source of anxiety for us for 6 months wondering when (or even if) it will arrive 😂 Once we’ve fulfilled all pre-orders, the mallets will be available for purchase direct from our website. But we’re a while off that yet… these things are not quick to make, even with four of us working on them 😅

Big thanks to the old employer Axminster Tools for sponsoring this project on the Free Online Woodworking School. The first two parts have just been released on YouTube!

🔎 Search for: Free Online Woodworking School 🔍

When we started the school, we did so with no idea of where it could go, or what it could be, yet continued to plug away at it out of a passion for publicly sharing knowledge in a structured, lecture like fashion that gives anyone a roadmap to become a more competent maker.

Only in the past year or so, with the addition of project packs, have we began coming close to breaking even financially on the time and money expense it takes to film these series. Hence why we’ve only managed to film and produce one project a year until now.

Having Axminster Tools sponsor this series however, is the next leap in taking this education model forward. To be clear, we’re not trying to undercut any paid online or physical courses by offering this content for free. We’re focusing on the grassroots aspects of woodworking by lowering the barrier of entry as much as we can, before guiding people towards formal training if they want to take things further.

This beautiful box is made from American Black Walnut, with a Walnut Burr lid, Maple interior lining, Macassar Ebony handle, and finished with smartWare hinges and one of our very own Emblem Coins.

One thing we didn’t anticipate upon releasing our Mallets was the mental amount of interest surrounding the coins in the top of the handle.

Long story short, the product quality of every supplier we sourced didn’t meet our standards, and we eventually resorted to making them in house using our state of the art fiber laser from Cloudray.

It’s taken a s*** ton of experimentation to get them to the quality we need, and we’re now finally able to offer custom coins to anyone who is interested. With huge discounts on large order quantities.

If you’re looking for a professional way to brand your pieces, I can absolutely guarantee that you will not find anything that comes close to these.

Yes they are expensive. But our thinking is if you’re selling a piece for a few hundred/thousand quid, your client probably won’t blink at an extra tenner here or there in the price. What they will notice however is a cheap stamped brass coin that’s a proper eyesore in an otherwise beautifully finished item.

These coins are made to extremely high tolerances on sliding head lathes and are machined 0.15mm oversized to give them a real ‘bite’ as they’re hammered or pressed into the material. They also come with a small chamfer on the bottom to give a leading edge, and have a groove around the perimeter which helps catch some of the excess glue squeeze out. Finally, unlike stamped or pressed coins, the top corners are completely square which makes the perimeter seamless when fully inserted.

Couldn’t be happier with these, and all credit goes to for figuring out the design, manufacturing and the financing of these beautiful products. 👏

Also big thanks to those who let us use your logo for these photos. You’ll be receiving them in the post very soon! Also free to make yourself aware in the comments so I can tag you 😊

New project for the Free Online Woodworking School inbound ✈️ Except this time, I’m putting aside my premium woodworking tools and working with things that are a little more relatable, yet still function exactly as you’d expect them to. More updates to follow soon 💪

Thanks for the love on the new video 🙏

This was hands down the most anxious I’ve been before a video release. From my perspective, it was essentially 30 minutes of confessions, vulnerability and coming face to face with my crippling sense of imposter syndrome. Because the longer we spent producing the video, the longer I had to ask myself ‘who the f*** am I to give business/life advice?’

But it was done so in the hope of inspiring and empowering others, give them the resources to follow their passions, and pass on the torch from those who helped and guided me at such an early stage.

Of course none of what I’ve done would have come to fruition if it weren’t for all of you. Which is something I’m both incredibly grateful for, and is a debt I will continue to repay for as long as I do this for. Thank you.

Have a great weekend! ☀️
