🌟 Meet Sally – One of Our Wonderful Team Members! 🌟

We’d love to introduce you to Sally and share a little bit about the person behind the familiar face many of you will know and love. ❀️

Sally was born in Edgbaston, Birmingham, before moving to the beautiful seaside town of Brixham when she was young. She attended both primary and secondary school in Brixham before heading to Torquay Technical College, where she studied Leisure and Recreation.

After college, Sally worked in a restaurant in Exeter before becoming a mum at the age of 19. She later welcomed her second daughter, and family has remained a hugely important part of her life.

At the age of 30, Sally found her calling in care and achieved her Level 2 NVQ. Her caring nature really shines through in her story. As part of the Shared Lives initiative, Sally welcomed a gentleman into her own home and cared for him for five years β€” a very special chapter of her life and a wonderful example of the kindness and compassion she brings to others.

Following his passing, Sally joined us here at Harbour Rise as a General Assistant. She spent five years in that role before moving into our Domestic Team, where she has now been a valued member for the past three years. We feel incredibly lucky to have her as part of our team. πŸ’™

Away from work, Sally shares her home with her husband, Chris, her Yorkshire Terrier, Hamish, and her cat, Dobby, and yes, that name gives you a clue about one of Sally's biggest interests! ⚑πŸͺ„

Sally is a huge Harry Potter fan. She knows all the films and has visited the Harry Potter Studio Tour during her many trips to London. She also loves a good city break, with Cardiff and York among the places she enjoys visiting.

Closer to home, Sally loves walking Hamish and eating out. When she fancies a special treat, a trip to The Orange Tree is a particular favourite. 🐢🍽️

Sally has had such a varied and interesting journey, but throughout it all, one thing really stands out β€” her caring nature and commitment to others.

Thank you, Sally, for everything you do and for being such a lovely part of our team. We hope you’ve enjoyed getting to know her a little better! ❀️

β˜•πŸ° A lovely afternoon out at The Creek Restaurant!

Yesterday our day care centre residents and residents enjoyed a wonderful outing to The Creek at Dolphin Boatyard Restaurant in Galmpton, where they enjoyed coffee and cakes in beautiful surroundings. A few of our residents also had a pint of Bays!

It's outings like these that make such a difference β€” good company, fresh air, and a change of scenery always bring smiles all round. A big thank you to the team at The Creek Restaurant for making everyone feel so welcome. πŸ’™

πŸ‚ As we can really feel the seasons beginning to change, we decided that a nostalgic trip down memory lane was in order today!

We headed to Paignton Pier, where we enjoyed reminiscing about seaside holidays and the arcade machines of our youth. Despite the rather blustery walk along the beach, there was plenty of conversation about donkey rides, helter-skelters, Punch and Judy, sticks of rock and, of course, seagulls stealing your fish and chips!

One of our lovely new Harbour Rise residents is also very new to the area, so we wanted to show him some of what is right on the doorstep of his new home.

After plenty of fresh sea air, we stopped at The Rugga Shack and watched the boats bobbing on the water before heading back to Harbour Rise for a hearty lunch.

A wonderful outing, full of memories, conversation and laughter – although sadly, there wasn’t a donkey to be seen on Paignton Beach! πŸŒŠβ˜•

🐾✨ Animal Magic Comes to Harbour Rise! ✨🐾

Yesterday was certainly a day to remember at Harbour Rise as we welcomed Simon from Animal Activity and some very special animal visitors! 🐒🦎🐍🐾

There was plenty of excitement as our residents had the wonderful opportunity to get up close, meet, hold and learn about the different animals Simon brought along. The visit proved incredibly popular and created so many lovely moments throughout the day.

It was wonderful to see just how therapeutic the experience was for our residents. Animal visits can encourage conversation, stimulate memories and provide feelings of comfort and calm, as well as giving everyone something exciting and unusual to enjoy. The smiles, laughter and curiosity around Harbour Rise really said it all! ❀️

Some residents were keen to get involved straight away, while others enjoyed watching from a little further back before finding the courage to have a closer look. It was lovely seeing everyone engage with the experience in their own way and share such a special afternoon together.

A huge thank you to Simon from Animal Activity for bringing his wonderful animals to meet us and creating such an enjoyable and memorable experience.

We would also like to say a big thank you to our fantastic Day Care staff for helping to co-ordinate the visit with Simon and for making sure the day ran so smoothly. πŸ‘β€οΈ

🎲 What a wonderful afternoon it was!

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our Community Games Group this week. The room was full of chatter, laughter and a fair bit of friendly competition, from card games and Scrabble to closely fought games of draughts and chess. It was lovely to see so many familiar faces, and some new ones too!

If you missed it this time, do not worry, we run this group on the last Tuesday of every month, so the next one falls on Tuesday 29th September. Keep an eye on our page nearer the time, and remember, all ages and all abilities are always welcome.

A big thank you as well to everyone who brought along a favourite game to share. Seeing everyone tucked into a good game over a warm cuppa is exactly what this group is all about.

Yesterday we said a very fond farewell to our wonderful Kelly πŸ’

It's a bittersweet day for us as Kelly leaves our care home to begin an exciting new chapter, setting up her own business as a childminder. ❀️

Kelly has been the most wonderful member of our team. Always upbeat, always smiling and always ready to support those around her, she has been a fantastic Team Leader, a brilliant colleague and a huge support to our management team.

Her warmth, kindness and positivity have meant so much to everyone here. Our residents, staff and families will all miss her enormously β€” as will her fellow Team Leaders, some of whom joined her for a few farewell photos yesterday. πŸ“Έβ€οΈ

While we're very sad to see Kelly go, we're so excited for her new adventure. We wish her every success with her childminding business β€” although knowing Kelly, she won't need much luck! ❀️

Kelly, thank you for everything you have brought to our home and for all the smiles, laughter, support and happy memories along the way.
The door will always be open for you should you ever decide you'd like to return. ❀️

We will miss you very much, Kelly, but we are so excited to see what the future holds for you.

Good luck from all of your residents, colleagues, families and friends here at the home. We know you'll make a wonderful success of this next chapter, Kelly. πŸŒŸπŸ’β€οΈ

Today we're celebrating World Senior Citizens Day, and here at Harbour Rise it feels like every day! 🌊

There's something special about the community we get to be part of here in Roundham. Our residents bring so much life, wisdom and warmth into our home, whether it's a lively singalong, a competitive game of bingo, a gentle chair exercise class, or simply a quiet afternoon spent taking in the view together over a cup of tea.

Each person here has lived a full life, raised families, built careers, weathered storms, and gathered stories worth telling. We think that deserves to be celebrated, not just today but every single day. Our wonderful team feels privileged to share in these moments, to listen to those stories, and to help create new ones.

To all our residents, and to older people everywhere: thank you for everything you've given to the people around you. You continue to inspire us daily, and we're grateful to be part of your journey.

Happy World Senior Citizens Day from all of us at Harbour Rise. πŸ’™
